Stranger Thingsdebuted in 2016 and was an instant hit among the audience. It brought back the 1980s nostalgia, had compelling arcs, and an excellent blend of sci-fi with horror. Everyone was invested in the fictional town of Hawkins, and the group of friends who crossed every hurdle together.

They come across government conspiracies, alternate dimensions, entities, and whatnot! But the show’s scope and ambition to evolve further has led to many challenges and fans seem to be at their breaking point now as frustrations continue to rise.

Stranger Things’decline in ratings after season 1

The inaugural season ofStranger Thingsmade everyone tune in to watch an extraordinary show that went on to become a cultural phenomenon. It received a near-perfect rating of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes which is no small feat but the score for every other season released after that kept dropping (viaCheatsheet).

Initially, we were introduced to the disappearance of Will Byers and the emergence of Eleven, a girl with telekinetic abilities. In season two, the ratings were still strong at 94% and the universe kept expanding, bringing in new elements like Mind Flayer’s influence over the town.

Season 3 had a more action-oriented narrative, and escalated the threat levels by adding Starcourt Mall as a central hub. However, the ratings dipped to 89% and people felt like the show was now leaning more towards spectacle, rather than substance.

Fans ofStranger Thingsare exhausted from the long wait for season 5

The gaps between the seasons have constantly tested the audience’s patience and even the most dedicated fans have been complaining about the same. The interval between seasons 3 and 4 was understandable due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But with the final season expected to be released in 2025, the three-year wait felt too much.
