Throughout his action-studded career, Tom Cruise has never once hesitated to take that extra step to deliver the ultimate realistic experience to viewers and fans that has them seated at the edge of their seats. Be it doing death-defying stunts or pulling off real-time Gs for his aviation projects, he has never once shied away from doing things others would consider“crazy”to do.

This, unfortunately, makes“most movies look like they were shot on high-speed video rather than film.”

Also referred to as“the soap opera effect,”as theMission: Impossiblestar explained, this takes away the motion picture viewing experience that the cast and crew work so hard to develop. To say the least, it doesn’t allow viewers to see the film the way the creators intend to deliver it.
Thus, viewers are advised to turn this feature off so they can see the film the way that the filmmakers intended it to, as the dynamic duo explained in the clip shared by@BrianPoemmele on X.

However, rather than adhering to these guidelines and simply watching the films in the theatres instead (since navigating through the settings to turn this feature off isn’t the easiest),Miles Teller, his co-star fromMaverick, who decided to incite a feeling of annoyance in Cruise over this very thing.

And, of course, theEyes Wide Shutactor actually lost his calm as he laughed his way out throughout the interview as Teller sarcastically went on to constantly provoke Cruise and pull his leg.
This happened during the pair’s appearance onThe Graham Norton Show, where host Graham Norton asked Teller if he had the“big screen experience”ofMaverick. To this, the 37-year-oldWhiplashstar slyly responded,“I watched it on an iPhone. It was…amazing. One of the new iPhones, like the really big iPhones. It was incredible.”
Of course,this had Cruise going batsh-t crazy to the core, as he, while trying his best to control his laughter, cried out loud:
You son of a b-tch, Miles. Miles… I am going to crush you. I’m going to crush you, OK? Wait till… [Teller: You’ll never find me, Tom. You’ll never find me.] I’m calling your wife and she is going to help me. Tell Keleigh she’s going to help me, OK?
As hilarious as this entire event was, Teller must have really needed to hide if he wanted to be saved from theJack Reacherstar, considering how he really has someMission: Impossibleroutes to get where he wants to (pun intended).
But what’s even more hilarious than this is the fact that theFantastic Fouractor wasn’t the only one who hadCruise losing his calm, considering how Corden tried the same trick once before.
James Corden Also Mocked Tom Cruise on the Same Thing
In another hilarious turn of events, it wasJames Cordenwho mockingly decided to do the exact thing Cruise told everyone not to do: He watchedTop Gun: Maverickon a“tiny TV in my kitchen”without turning off motion smoothing.
In a clip shared by@tcarchive0220 on X, the Maverick portrayer was seen having one of the most frustrated reactions where, while really trying his best to hold his anger in, all he said to Corden was:“I’m leaving. I’m leaving.”Even as Corden tried to further rile him up by saying,“Your hyenas are waiting for you!”He only screamed“Goodbye James”back as he walked out.

Needless to say, all of these comical stints by Corden and Teller were done only to get under Cruise’s skin andhave a good laugh about it. Nonetheless, this is still a good lesson to take care of unless you want Tom Cruise to absolutely lose his calm in front of you!
