Team Asobi’s 2024 platform game,Astro Bot, is the biggest crossover episode you will see this year. The game featured 150 iconic PlayStation character cameos and not once you will feel like it was overdone. Initially, the creators expected to get 50 cameos since they expected a lot of partners to refuse, however, they got almost all the cameos they wanted.

Recently, Team Asobi president Nicholas Doucet explained that he directly approached Cory Barlog and Eric Williams to talk to them about Kratos’ cameo in the game, and in the end, he got the approval. It was exciting to see that all PlayStation partners agreed and allowed them to use their characters for the game.

In a recent interview withGQ, Nicholas Doucet, founder and current president ofTeam Asobi, talked about the latest game from the studio,Astro Bot. During the conversation, Doucet revealed that he approached Cory Barlog and Eric Williams to talk about Kratos’ cameo in the game,
I thought we’d ask for 150 cameos and we’d get 50 but we got almost everything we asked for – We spoke directly to Cory Barlog and Eric Williams and in their eyes, it’s great that we’re able to do something different with Kratos. God of War is such a dramatic IP and you have to be very careful about the world, so the moment you start bending those rules it’s quite refreshing for them.

Astro Botnot only features Kratos but also Atreus, Mimir, Sindri, Brok, Freya, Angrboða, Thor, and Thrúd. Team Asobi hasbig plans for the franchise’s future, so this is just the beginning.
Barlong and Williams were excited to see what Team Asobi would come up with. Doucet also explained that they had low expectations from the cameos as they expected around 50 but in the end, they almost got everyone.

All The PlayStation Partners Were Eager To Feature Their Characters InAstro Bot
In another interview withVariety, Doucet revealed that all the PlayStation partners Team Asobi approached were very supportive and were eager to see what the studio would do with their characters. Doucet revealed,
I’m very, very happy with, is the amount of love and care that our partners have shown us, because it was their positive attitude towards the game that made it possible. Ownership of IPs and things like that sometimes can be a subject of friction or productivity, and the fact that we’re able to use these characters and twist them, because a lot of the time we make fun of them… I think it goes to show that people really embrace that fun and playfulness. And that’s a really positive human experience because those people were really supportive of what we were doing with their characters.
