XDefiant’s executive producer Mark Rubin has told players frustrated with the game’s ongoing bugs to “move on.”
A user on X (formerly Twitter)tagged Rubinasking if XDefiant had been “rushed out.” Rubin provided a lengthy response, explaining that XDefiant is built on an engine not originally intended for first-person shooters (thanks,VGC).

“Rushed out? No. What we have is an engine that has only ever been used for an MMO. And so all of the infrastructure for an FPS has had to be built up from the ground floor,” Rubin explained.
From The Ground Up
“Even Call of Duty started on ID tech which was a shooter engine. Apex started on a shooter engine. But for us we are working on developing all new tech in an engine that was designed for something else.”
XDefiant was built on Snowdrop, one of Ubisoft’s proprietary engines. The ‘MMO’ that Rubin is referring to is Tom Clancy’s The Division, the first game built using Snowdrop. Other Snowdrop games include South Park: The Fractured but Whole, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.

XDefiant Just Took A Swing At Call Of Duty In New Promotional Video
A new promotional video for XDefiant has taken jabs at multiple competitors, including Call of Duty, Battlefield, and more.
“That being said the engine is really great but it does require a lot of work and with that work comes a lot of bugs that other engines have already worked out,” he continued.

“We’re not a shooter that’s been out for 20 years. If you like what we are trying to do stick around and you’ll see things improve and new features get added. But if the game isn’t for you that’s ok you can move on.”
By far the most common complaints from XDefiant players involve net code and hit registration, complex issues that are not easily solved. There has also been criticism of the new ranked mode, which doesn’t include placement matches or a ping system; and games can begin before all players have fully connected.

Upcoming XDefiant Patch Will Double The Speed That You Level Up Weapons
Ubisoft says it has “heard the feedback” and will be making big changes to weapon XP.
