Actor Cole Hauser is arguably best known for his role as Rip Wheeler in the hit Western drama seriesYellowstone. However, Hauser has been working in Hollywood for a long time, having breakthrough roles in ensemble movies likeSchool TiesandDazed and Confusedduring the 1990s. While working on the former movie, Hauser metBourne Identitystar Matt Damon.
In an interview, Hauser opened up about working with Damon and revealed taking inspiration from the actor. Hauser stated that he admired Damon’s attention to his physical well-being and fitness and tried to follow in his colleague’s footsteps. Here is what Hauser said about taking fitness inspiration from Damon and one other prominent star.

ActorCole Hauserplayed the role of Jack Connors in the 1992 dramaSchool Ties. He starred alongside a stacked cast that also included a youngMatt Damonin the role of Charlie Dillon. The duo later collaborated on the critically acclaimed Oscar-winning 1997 filmGood Will Hunting.
During an interview withGQ, Hauser admitted that he admired how Damon looked after himself, especially in terms of his fitness and well-being. TheYellowstonestar stated the following about being inspired by Damon:
And Matty [Damon], he’s always stayed in great shape. When we did School Ties together in the early ‘90s, he was one of the better players out there on the [football] field.
Furthermore, Hauser added that he had witnessed the careers of Damon andDazed and Confusedco-star Matthew McConaughey. He noted how the two stars were extremely conscious about their fitness.

Hauser revealed that even if Damon and McConaughey let themselves go and consumed alcohol they spent extra time working out to compensate for it. As a result, seeing his two former co-stars take such care of their fitness inspired Hauser to follow in their footsteps.

During the same interview, Hauser also stressed the importance of looking after himself as an actor, regularly working out, and not falling into the temptations that have often negatively impacted the careers of other actors. At the same, Hauser also mentioned avoiding the pitfalls of alcohol.
Alcohol was a big thing with my community coming up in the ’90s. Everybody drank back then.
TheYellowstonestar made the above statement, explaining that while he drank here and there he did not let it become a habit.

Similarly, the actor also revealed that many actors struggle with drugs, but thankfully he was never surrounded by people who were addicted to them and never felt its pitfalls. Hauser also revealed avoiding alcohol had made him a better person and actor. He will next appear in the upcoming second half ofYellowstoneseason 5 slated to premiere in November 2024.
