At a time when teenagers were mostly confined to the sidekick shtick, things changed dramatically after Spider-Man’s debut, which allowed young readers to relate with Parker, and Peter’s clumsiness set him apart from his peers. Even though the Sam Raimi movies weren’t completely faithful to the comics, the films did nail the clumsy aspect of Peter’s life.

The MCU also did a good job in this department, which was elevated by the fact that they brought in an age-appropriate actor for the gig. Moreover, Tom Holland’s demeanor on his first screen test with RDJ was very much indistinguishable from that of Peter.
Peter Parker’s clumsiness comes naturally to Tom Holland
While fans have often complained about the lack of street-level stakes in the MCU’s Spider-Man stories, one thing they did get right wasTom Holland. Not only did theUnchartedstar look the part, but interestingly, he acted in a similar fashion after coming acrossRobert Downey Jr, who turned out to be theIron Manstar’s stand-in.

In an interview withZendaya(viaInterview Magazine), the actor recounted being nervous during his stand-in for the screen test, as he felt RDJ didn’t look like his onscreen self, only to realize it wasn’t actually theIron Manstar.
I did five self-tapes, and then a screen test with Robert Downey Jr. and a screen test with Chris Evans. In the screen test with Robert Downey Jr., they brought me into the room and I met him. I was so nervous. In my head, I thought, ‘Wow, you look really weird in person. You don’t look like you do onscreen.’ I found out later that I met his stand-in. I basically got my nerves out on his stand-in and then met him.

Funnily enough, this bit resembles Peter’s confrontation with Tony Stark inHomecoming, and it’s safe to assume that Peter’s clumsiness comes naturally to Holland.
Age might be catching up to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man
Apart from looking and acting the part, one thing that the actor absolutely rejoiced in one of his screen tests was the opportunity to pull off a backflip, which he had been doing in his previous audition tapes. However, it seems age might be catching up with him, as during his recent trip to Cornwall, the actor pulled every muscle in his stomach while doing a backflip (viaMen’s Health).
So I went outside and I was getting ready, and I was thinking, ‘I can do this. I can totally do this. I’ve done this thousands of times.’ And Z[endaya] was there, and she was like, ‘Are you sure you can still do this?’ I actually did land it, but I pulled every muscle in my stomach, because when you do a backflip, it’s all about extending up as much as you can and then tucking. For weeks, I could not laugh because my stomach was so sore.

Considering Holland has been vocal about leaving Hollywood afterapproaching fatherhood, the physical limitations that come with age might further contribute to his eventual departure as Peter Parker.
