As they moved forward with their lives, they decided to burn their old home and, along with it, their dreaded memories. The date when they burned their home was 3rd October 1911.

The Significance of The Date inFullmetal Alchemist
When Edward and Alphonse decided to burn their house down and move forward with their lives, Edward scratched the date on his silver State Alchemist pocket watch. He wanted a constant reminder of what they had lost and their goal of restoring their bodies. This date scratched on his pocket watch was that reminder.

However, the sad events that took place after her death turned their home into the exact opposite of what it used to be. Not only did they fail to bring their mother back, but they also lost parts of their bodies.
