Clooney had worked with the studio several times on projects likeSuburbiconandUp in the Air. Clooney shared that the movie business market is getting eaten up by the big media conglomerates.

George Clooney Explains Why It’s Difficult For Hollywood To Make Stars Like Him
George Clooneyshared that Paramount, once one of the great original studios, was like the“mom-and-pop shops”in town. He expressed concern that large media companies, which he compared to the“Walmarts and Amazons around the world”, were taking business away from such studios. Clooney further noted that these changes could diminish Hollywood’s ability to produce stars.

According to Clooney, the studio system developed stars by offering them three or four back-to-back successful films. With the decline of the traditional studio system, it has become more difficult to sell movies based solely on a star’s name. Clooney shared that he was part of the last line ofstars produced by the studio system. TheSyrianaactor shared withGQ:
[Hollywood] haven’t developed stars the way the studio system used to. We kind of were at the very end of that, where you could work at a studio and do three or four films, and there was some plan to it. And I don’t think that’s necessarily the case anymore. So it’s harder for you to sell somebody something on the back of a star.

However, Clooney also acknowledged that it was a“great time as a young actor”. He shared that the studio system could only produce a limited number of projects compared to today’s media conglomerates. He recalled that the studios used to produce about 64 shows and five films per year. The actors had a better chance if their film was a hit or their show broke into the top 20.
The new system has brought more opportunities for actors. The Monuments Menactor shared,“Now there are 600 shows, so there’s a lot more work for actors.”Interestingly, Clooney’s comments come at a time when he’s actively promoting his filmWolfs, co-starringBrad Pitt, which was produced by Apple Studios for streaming release.

ThePulp Fictiondirector further went on to ask the interviewer toname one movie of Clooney that was a hitsince the millennium. TheTicket to Paradiseactor shared with GQ:
Quentin said some shit about me recently, so I’m a little irritated by him. He did some interview where he was naming movie stars, and he was talking about [Pitt] and somebody else, and then this [interviewer] goes, ‘Well, what about George?’ He goes, ‘He’s not a movie star.’ And then he literally said something like, ‘Name me a movie since the millennium.’

Clooney was clearly insulted as he shared that he built his mainstream career mostly in that same timeframe. He shared,“‘Since the millennium?’ That’s kind of my whole fcking career. So now I’m like, all right, dude, fck off.”Interestingly, it is unclear where Tarantino shared such disparaging comments about the actor.
