AlthoughYellowstone‘s acclaimed run at TV was cut short following Kevin Costner’s exit, which is now set to conclude next month, this isn’t stopping Taylor Sheridan from exploring the western landscape. With Billy Bob Thornton’sLandmanopening to a decent reception, fans are excited to see what the new IP has up its sleeve for future episodes.
As for Thornton’s stance on working with theSicariowriter, the actor expressed that he has complete faith in Sheridan, but given how things turned out for Costner, this might turn out to be a double-edged sword.
Billy Bob Thornton Has Complete Faith in Taylor Sheridan’s Direction
WhenBilly Bob Thorntonwas initially pitched with the idea of his character inLandman, the actor clarified he wasn’t made aware of his arc in the future seasons, adding (viaCollider)“All I know is the first season”. However, this didn’t impact his bond withTaylor Sheridan, as following his history with the writer, the actor expressed that he blindly trusts Sheridan,“This guy knows what he’s doing”.
I just trusted Taylor… We did not know the Arc of Three Seasons or four… all I know is the first season.
While it’s reasonable to see why theGoliathstar is comfortable putting all his eggs in Sheridan’s basket, considering how things turned out between theSicariowriter andKevin Costner, one should be cautious.

Even thoughYellowstoneshowed no signs of slowing down after cementing itself as one of the biggest shows in recent years, the reported feud between Costner and Sheridan ended up hindering the series’ potential long run. Although it was heavily reported that Costner’s decision toprioritize hisHorizonflickscontributed toYellowstone‘s early departure from TV, the seeds of doubt between him and Sheridan were apparently sown way earlier.

Back during season 2 ofYellowstone, it wasreportedthat the showrunner asked the Emmy-winning star to stick to acting after the latter raised concerns over the show’s direction. While Sheridan debunked these claims (viaTHR), the Western filmmaker admitted to undermining Costner’s suggestions regarding the direction, which was apparently upsetting for the actor.
There was a time in Season 2 when he was very upset and said the character wasn’t going in the direction he wanted. I said, ‘Kevin, you do remember that I told you this is essentially The Godfather on the largest ranch in Montana? Are you that surprised that the Godfather is killing people?’ What he’s clung to is [Dutton’s] commitments to his family and way of life.
As forLandman‘s future, hopefully, Thornton’s decision to put all his trust in Sheridan won’t backfire, and given Sheridan’s feats in the Western genre, one can be optimistic.
