Warhammer 40K: Darktidedoes a good job of rewarding you with a little something whenever you level up. While you can immediately equip cosmetic rewards and enjoy them even before jumping into a new mission, that’s not really the case when it comes to weapons and abilities. Or is it? Well, as it happens, you don’t necessarily need to fire up a mission in order to test your new toys.

How To Test Weapons & Abilities Outside Missions

There are a couple of places on the Mourningstar you’re likely to miss if you don’t bother exploring the ship properly. One of them is the Barber-Chirurgeon, which you can use tomodify your character’s appearance. Another one is thePsykhanium, a virtual training room of sorts you are introduced to during Darktide’s tutorial section.

Once you’re done with the tutorial, you’re likely to forget all about the Psykhanium as you start focusing all your attention on purging heretics in the name of the Emperor. You should definitely check back at some point though because the Psykhanium is the only place where you cantest weapons and abilities outside missions. More specifically, the area of the Psykhanium known as the Meat Grinder.

Everything You Need To Know About The Meat Grinder

TheMeat Grinderis basically a room where you can shoot and stab enemies without having to worry about them hitting you back. That may not sound all that exciting, but it’s the perfect place for evaluating and comparing pieces of gear.

The damage you inflict in the Meat Grinder has numeric values attached to it, which is something you won’t see during missions. you’re able to use this in conjunction with theWeapon Inspect featureto get a better sense of how well certain weapons perform against specific types of enemies. The Meat Grinder also gives numeric values to other things, such as grenades and special abilities like thePsyker’s Brain Burst.

The Meat Grinder gives you an endless supply of ammo tins, medical crates, and grenade boxes so don’t hesitate to go all out when testing weapons and abilities. You can change your Feats, cosmetics, and Loadout while you’re there, however, you can only equip weapons that are already in your inventory. If you want to test other types of weapons you’ll need to go out and buy them because you can’t access the shop from within the Meat Grinder.

Like most other things in Warhammer 40K: Darktide, the Meat Grinder becomes gradually more interesting as you increase your Trust level. If your Trust level is low, you’ll only find some Poxwalkers and a handful of other basic enemies when using the Meat Grinder. But keep increasing your Trust level, and you’ll eventually get the chance to test your weapons and abilities on much bigger and stronger enemies.
