10Buy Healing Items
Healing Font Heals Everyone In The Unit
One of the first habits players should get into in Unicorn Overlord is buying up valuable stock from the Provisioner in every town. Healing Tonics, Healing Fonts, Revival Orbs and the like are universally useful items that will always come in handy in a pinch.
While early combat is incredibly easy, regardless of difficulty, it can be downright impossible to get through some of the later fights without the aid of items to carry you through. Buying up stock whenever it becomes available allows your backpack to always be bursting with goodies useful in a fight.
9Death Is Not The End
It’s Part Of The Loop
Like Healing Items, revival items can also be bought from the Provisioner in every town, not to mention you’ll be able to get a ton of them simply through exploration and liberating towns.
If a unit has three characters and one of them dies, the unit can still go on fighting, even when they’re short a member. But if all of them die, they’ll simply return to the roster and can be summoned again from your command post. Victory and defeat is not decided by death, it’s decided by who captures the enemy base.
8Use Pause
Strategize To Avoid Getting Overwhelmed
Pausing in the game has no downsides and tons of benefits. Players can strategize easily without being under a time crunch, giving themselves room to breathe. Remember to turn on ‘Auto-Pause at start of stage” in the settings. This allows you to start off combat on the right foot.

In Unicorn Overlord, you can easily check win-probabilty of a unit against an enemy unit. Keep in mind though that this is not static and can easily change depending on circumstances. The situation can change massively if an enemy uses a Valor skill or engages in combat under a garrisoned watchtower.
7Make Hard Saves
Before Major Battles
Depending on your build anddifficulty level, some battles can be incredibly hard. One quality-of-life feature new players might overlook is the ability to save their game during combat encounters.
Not only does this allow you to experiment with different loadouts and unit formations, it is also an excellent way to ensure you may redo any choices presented to you after the conclusion of a battle. Post battle choices affect whether or not you’ll be able to recruit a certain character or lose them forever.
6Lean On Josef Early
To Make Encounters Easy
Alain’s most loyal follower, Josef is an early game powerhouse that can’t be touched by anyone or anything during the first part of the game. As a Paladin, he offers healing, resistance, and an insane damage output.
Do note, however, that using Josef can easily make combat encounters trivially easy when they’re not supposed to be. attempt to use your other party members as much as possible to give them an EXP boost, but if the going gets tough, Josef will be a get-out-jail-free card. Use at your own discretion.
5Carefully Select Unit Leaders
Each One Has A Different Specialty
Unit Leader is not an empty title in Unicorn Overlord, it carries weight and gameplay consequences. If, for example, you recruited Ochlys to take advantage of her flight capabilities but didn’t make her the leader of her unit, she wouldn’t be able to make her unit fly.
Always keep the leader position in the back of your mind and be ready to switch it up depending on your situation. The archer class, when set as a leader, makes for an excellent support unit that can aid you from afar without having to engage in battle themselves. But if you don’t remember to set them as the leader, they won’t be able to help out.
4Repeat Auxiliary Stages

Auxiliary Stages can be unlocked fairly on in the game (before yousave Scarlett) right in the starting area. You’ll meet Selvie, a Shaman, directly south of Miriam. Talk to her, and she’ll guide you to your first Auxiliary Stage: The Sigil Trials, Beginner 1.

The way these battles work is exactly like any other battle in the game, except they are repeatable. Unlike Mock Battles, which are also repeatable, Auxiliary Quests reward you with experience, gold, and honors as well. Use them to quickly farm out resources or train up under-leveled units.
3Don’t Overdeliver To Towns
Honor & Gold Can Be Earned In Other Ways
Alain and the resistance will have their job cut out for them if they want to liberate the land from its oppressors. One of the main ways of doing it is by fulfilling town requests in the form of deliveries. These typically involve items like Corsite Lumber, Cornut Lumber, Cornut Trout, etc.
However, one mistake players often make is to continue making deliveries to a town that has already been liberated. The only benefit of doing this is to get the Honor and Gold rewards associated with that delivery. There is no extra benefit to making an additional round of deliveries after the first one.
2Always Station Guards At Towns
You Can Still Use Guards In Battles
As you unlock towns by completing missions and traversing through the game, you’ll encounter the ability to ‘Station a Guard’ in towns you’ve liberated and completed deliveries to. One question that immediately comes to mind is:Can you use characters who’ve been stationed as a guard in battle stages?The answer: Yes.
Stationing a guard at a town gives you a boost to gold earned from battles within that Guards area of influence and passively adds gatherable items from that area to your stash. You can also use this opportunity to increase Alain’s rapport with said guard by gifting them things like Cut Flowers. It’s a win-win-win.
1Expand Units Early
Purchased At Any Fort
Expanding units allows you to squeeze in an extra character in that unit, allowing for a huge jump in DPS and survivability. You can expand units at any Fort or City in the game as long as you’ve conquered the neighboring area.
You’ll need to use a currency called Honors to upgrade units. Honors are easy to come by by simply playing the game. Everything from conquering towns, making deliveries, to increasing rapport with companions gives you a certain amount of Honors.
