While there’s a ton of free-to-play games available on consoles and PC, there are a few gems that sadly, go unnoticed, or don’t get noticed enough that soon after, their plug gets pulled.

There’s a game available now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, developed and published byUbisoft— the same company behind Assassin’s Creed, Splinter Cell, and more — that can be played for free. However, it has only two days left before its servers are completely shut down.

This Ubisoft Arena Shooter Is Playable For Free For The Next 48 Hours

The game I’m referring to is XDefiant, the free-to-play shooter from former Call of Duty devs that was released last year on consoles and PC. While the game initially launched to millions of players, it failed to sustain the player base due to limited content, persistent bugs that took too long to resolve, and a few other issues.

However, the game’s gunplay, movement and gameplay are all solid, and it’s a shame the game’s playerbase didn’t stick long enough. The announcement about the servers shutting downoccurred in December last year, and the shutdown date is June 3 — just a few days away (thanks for the reminder,ComicBook!)

You still have time to play the game if you already have it installed or if you ever downloaded it. As someone who spent dozens of hours playing the game, it’s not a bad shooter, but it just needed more development time to fix some of its annoying bugs.

Now is your chance to pick up two incredible games for the low, low cost of free.

If you have time, give the game another go before its servers completely shut down on June 3. Who knows? Perhaps fan mods and projects can keep it going well past its server shutdown date, although that would need to be done with Ubisoft’s blessing for it to happen.

One of the main hurdles XDefiant suffered from was the time it took from beta to release. When the beta launched, it was met with very positive reception, and then silence. The devs at Ubisoft San Francisco took almost a year from the beta to finally release the game on consoles and PC, and at that point, a ton of goodwill and hype have evaporated.

Any chance of a revival or something seems to be out fo the question, asUbisoft has slashed a lot of jobs from its San Francisco branchwhere the game was made.
