While it never found the success of platforming icons lie Mario,Banjo-Kazooie,Crash, or Spyro, Krome Studios’Ty the Tasmanian Tigerseries was still a fairly notable mid-tier 3D platformer in the 2000s. Personally, I have fond memories of playing the second game on the original Xbox as a kid. Even though several years have passed since their initial release, Krome Studios has held onto the property. They have been re-releasing the entire series on Steam over the past couple of years, and now Krome Studios is going the crowdfunding route to try and get a Nintendo Switch remaster of the firstTy the Tasmanian Tigergame off the groundvia KickStarter.
The crowdfunding campaign began today, and Krome Studios is hoping to raise $50,000 over the next 29 days. The port’s KickStarter has already received $7,872 as of the time I’m writing this, so it should be able to raise that amount if it keeps this pace up. To clear things up, thisTy the Tasmanian Tigerrelease for Nintendo Switch will be something much closer to the upcomingGrandia HD Collectionrather than theSpyro Reignited Trilogy.
Still, the developers did highlight the changesTy the Tasmanian Tigerfor Nintendo Switch would have. When it comes to visual enhancements,Ty the Tasmanian Tigerwould be upgraded with screen-space ambient occlusion, dynamic shadows, better color correction, updated HD textures for environments and characters, and flashier particle effects. On the gameplay side of things, Krome Studios says players can expect a better camera, a Hardcore Mode where players have only one life, new character skins for Ty, and less bugs due to a new round of QA testing. The developers also want to add 6-axis motion controls to the game that would allow playing throw boomerangs and glide more precisely.
Currently, this re-release ofTy the Tasmanian Tigerin 2020 is only slated for Nintendo Switch, though the campaign’s announcement video does say other platforms will be adding if a stretch goal is met; that being said, that specific stretch goal is not currently listed on the game’s KickStater page.
