Okarun and Momo’s adventures have kicked off inDandadan. What began with individual adventures to defy each other’s beliefs has turned into a shared journey to retrieve what’s important. Turbo Granny stripped Okarun of his private parts, and after he and Ayase defeated her successfully, Okarun realized that he had now lost his “family jewels”.
Since that revelation, Turbo Granny has now become an aid to the central duo. While it’s hard to completely trust her as an accomplice, she has undoubtedly become an integral character. However, she was a gray character at the beginning as well. Her attack on Okarun was questionable indeed, but she seemed to have her reasons.
Turbo Granny’s first introduction made her a sinister villain for fans, but her back story fleshed her out to be so much more, suggesting that her actions might have been somewhat justified.
Turbo Granny’s Attack on Okarun wasn’t Completely Sinister
Okarun was challenged to visit the tunnel, and it changed his life and his body. Turbo Granny had a creepy greeting for Okarun and stole his genitals, which or ‘kintama’ or ‘family jewels’. The audience’s first interaction with Turbo Granny makes her seem like a creepy antagonist and nothing more. However, ever since her past was revealed by Granny Seiko,fans have begun to speculateon the true meaning behind the first introduction.

Turbo Granny is a yokai who is feared by humans, and her striking quality is her speed. She terrorizes people in the way she did with Okarun. While her deeds come off as questionable, she has a good reason behind them. Seiko revealed that the mediums were hunting Turbo Granny for a long time. She is known to visit the spirit of young girls who died horrific deaths after being assaulted, protecting them in a way. That explains her hostility towards men.
But, that wasn’t the only reason she took away Okarun’s family jewels. The tunnel was Turbo Granny’s territory. Seiko made it very clear that the living and the dead should not trespass on each other’s realms. When Okarun entered the tunnel, he did exactly that.
Plus he was a man, so he offended the yokai in two ways. That makes her reaction somewhat justified, but creepy nonetheless. Still, her good intentions don’t erase her evil tendencies as she switches back and forth by threatening the young duo while also saving them at times. But, it could be said that she’s an ally of young girls.
Turbo Granny is the Perfect Example of What MakesDandadanSo Great
With the first arc in the series,Yukinobu Tatsushowed us a range of genres. Plus, the true extent and nature of the kind of encounters Okarun and Momo were going to have. The aliens and Turbo Granny showed villains who were creepy, while the backstory for the yokai explained her actions, rather than simply painting her as entirely bad.
Fans Recognised the Real Reason Why Dandadan Episode 6 Had Such an Easy Fight and it’s Not Momo or Okarun
The chemistry between Momo and Okarun also became apparent by the end ofthe first episode, giving us a hint of the blooming romance. Besides the main characters, there are characters like Seiko who introduce a more level-headed approach. So without holding back,Dandadanshowcases all that it has to offer. While it might be jarring for some, the appeal and the questionable elements become apparent right off the bat!
