Akira Toriyama’sDragon Ballhas been elevated to the status of a staple Shonen anime that every otaku is acquainted with. By featuring some of the most breathtaking moments that have graced our television screens, featuring our favorite Saiyan, Son Goku.

A still from Dragon Ball Super: Broly

However, there’s one character who, despite his limited screen time, has managed to get the fandom screaming with excitement as Toriyama-Sensei did everything that struck a chord with the audience. It is none other than Broly, the Legendary Super Saiyan, who stormed into the scene with his non-canon in 1993.

The villain was a walking calamity and even overshadowed some legendary names in the series. To the surprise of the fans, Toyotarou might take his fan following to a whole other level by solving the plothole that Toriyama-Sensei has left behind.

Akira Toriyama’s Broly in the Z series was epic

When we talk about the most enthralling characters with limited screen time inAkira Toriyama’sDragon Ballfranchise, Broly’s name is the first one to pop up for OG fans. Though initially introduced as an antagonist in the 1993 film,DBZ: Broly – The Legendary Super Saiyan, the mangaka had a change of plans when he decided to make him a part of the main cast by giving him another film in 2018.

TheDB community believed that big things were on the way. The show broke a major record following Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece;it is not receiving a season 2. However, that’s not the grim part because following the Berserker Saiyan becoming a canon character, he is still sidelined, like how we saw him for a couple of minutes inDBS: Super Hero, where he was cheering as Kakarot and the Prince of All Saiyans battled it out.

The notion of making the Saiyan a part of the story but keeping him out of the storyline will not make much sense either. After all, he is insanely strong and can become a force of nature once he taps into the power of Ozaru. Since his entire reputation is based on his strength, where he almost laid waste to the Z Fighters.

This was evident in the 2018 film as well, where he gave a tough time to Goku and Vegeta, compelling them to do the Saiyan dance to fuse into Gogeta. Since Toriyama-Sensei is not among us anymore, the work has been put on the shoulders of Toyotarou, who’s been illustrating theDBSmanga since 2015 and has beenresponsible for making Moro so unique.

Toyotarou might just outperform Akira Toriyama if he figures out a narrative including Broly

Therefore, if the artist manages to include Broly into the main cast without hampering his image, then he can outclass the creator of the series in terms of storytelling.

The thought of Toyotarou coming up with a narrative that will include more of Broly without tarnishing his reputation does sound alluring to the ears. However, one question continues to occupy the thoughts of the fandom, that is,“Why was he overlooked by the mangaka?”

Well, that boils down to only one reason, which happens to be quite simple in nature. The major and only reason is that Akira Toriyama has centrally kept Goku and Vegeta as his show’s two protagonists, and not evenGohan could convince himdespite putting on a show in the Cell Games saga.

The series revolves mainly around the core theme of becoming the best version of yourself and constantly pushing oneself towards self-improvement. Although the Legendary Super Saiyan fulfills the idea, he lacks the traits of growth, humility, and limitless potential within oneself.

Is the Dragon Ball Super Manga Better Than Anime?

Since he does not include the major traits, the author might have excluded him from the bigger picture, where he is only shown as a cheerleader. There’s a theory that he can develop his character bytraining an overlooked Saiyan of the series that will develop his character.

Hence, the idea of him not being a main character is not out of the window. Nevertheless, fans will have to continue their wait to witness if Toyotarou adds another touchstone to the series’ ever-evolving saga.
