Fans’ perceptions of certain characters inTulsa Kinghave reasonably changed after the last few episodes, especially in the case of Jay Will’s Tyson and Neal McDonough’s Cal Thresher. While the show initially attempted to paint Thresher in an intimidating light, especially after he persuaded Armand into taking his offer, this no longer seems to be the case.

Episode 7 has especially been a wake-up call for fans, as not only did it highlight Tyson’s incompetence in the criminal world, but it also proved that Thresher is way over his head.
Neal McDonough Has Little Agency in His Criminal Empire
While Tyson ends up initiating apotential warfollowing his suspicion over Bill’s involvement in his father’s bombing, it’s later revealed that the assassination attempt links back to Cal Thresher’s partner Jackie. Upon confrontation, Thresher reveals that he was unaware of Jackie’s actions.
“He’s remarkable as Dwight Manfredi”: The Last Actor You’d Expect to Praise Sylvester Stallone Has Acknowledged His Might in Tulsa King
Although he’s noticeably frustrated by Jackie’s ruthless antics and lacks trust inSylvester Stallone‘s Dwight, the episode proves thatNeal McDonough‘s Thresher has little to no agency over in the conflict.
This isn’t surprising, as even in the past episodes, it was never implied that he had many people backing him up, which seemingly proves he might not be the biggest threat to Dwight, at least not yet.

Tulsa KingWriter on What Differentiates Dwight From Tony Soprano
While on paper, Dwight fromTulsa Kingand Tony Soprano fromThe Sopranosmight not seem much different, which is reasonable as these characters share the same writer, this isn’t exactly the case. Opposed to Tony’s more thuggish persona,Terence Winteradded (viaScreen Rant) that Dwight, at heart,“is a rational, reasonable guy”.
Was Taylor Sheridan Okay With it? Tulsa King Showrunner Wanted 1 Character to be Dressed Like “Austin Powers”
Another trait that makes Stallone’s mafia boss different is his sense of humor, which makes the character more humane.
I think that’s what makes him different. He’s got a sense of humor. He’s basically a good guy. He really does want to go straight, but he’s got very limited conflict resolution skills and also very limited business skills. But he is trying. And sometimes, you know, he makes the wrong choices and then causes more problems for himself. And then it’s sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy that things are not going to go well.

Given Tyson’s impulsive actions in episode 7, it won’t be far-fetched to assume that Bill might end up joining forces with Thresher, given their motivations.
Tulsa Kingseason 2 is available to stream on Paramount Plus.
