Eiichiro Oda’sOne Pieceis incomplete without Roronoa Zoro and his extraordinary popularity can give fierce competition to the main characters of many popular anime. Whether it’s being the perfect man to swoon over or an inspiring figure for fans to ramp up their gym sessions, Zoro can do it all. Part of his coolness and popularity is a result of his swords. His fighting style sets him apart from the countless swordsmen across different anime.

The swords have played an integral role in his character arc throughout the series. Fans have come up with an interesting theory that connects one of the most popular gags inOne Piecewith Zoro’s cursed sword, Sandai Kitetsu. It gives a whole new direction for Zoro fans to venture into and eventually get lost! So, what is this Zoro Cursed Sword theory all about?

Zoro Cursed Sword theory explains the biggest gag inOne Piece

ThroughoutOne Piece, Zoro has come across many legendary and common blades. He has wielded them all with the same zeal. However, Wado Ichimonji and Sandai Kitetsu have been a part of his arsenal for a long time. Sandai Kitetsu is a cursed blade that he found during the LogueTown arc. Sandai Kitetsu’s curse is thatit brings its owners to their death.

An interesting theory has surfaced online and it draws a connection between the popular joke about Zoro’s navigation skills with the curse of Sandai Kitetsu. This theory by Instagram user @dylanosaurarts,as explained in this reelexplains why Zoro often gets lost inOne Piece. It suggests that Sandai Kitetsu leads the wielders straight to their enemies, landing them in battles they can’t win.

The only evidence that somewhat supports this theory is a small instance fromOne Pieceepisode 2. In this episode, Zoro directs Luffy in the right direction, which is in contrast to Zoro’s abysmal navigation skills. At that time, Zoro didn’t possess Sandai Kitetsu. His sense of direction was supposedly lost after his paths crossed with the cursed blade, according to the theory.

Here’s how plausible this theory is

InOne Piece, every main character has a quirk or personality trait that’s unique to them and gets used for comic purposes. For Zoro, it’s his poor navigation skills and the habit of getting lost, even while he’s following a straight path. Similarly, Sanji’s fondness for women is a running gag, and so is Nami’s obsession with money. Both these gags can easily be explained byEiichiro Oda‘s canon narrative.

Sanji’s affection for women is partially the result of the promise he made to his father/mentor, Zeff. During his time at Baratie, Sanji was taught to never hurt a woman. He abides by this rule even if it costs him his life. As for Nami, the tragic experiences that shaped her childhood could all be solved with money, or that’s at least what she believed. This could be a possible explanation for her obsession with money.

So, it’s possible thatZoro’s poor sense of direction has a canon reasonthat may get revealed later down the line. Oda is notorious for avoiding fan theories at all costs, which eliminates the possibility of this theory ever turning out to be true. However, the real idea could be closer to this theory than we think, given that there’s one.
