Criminal Mindsis a beloved show for many reasons. Be it the grotesque themes, police investigations, funny banter, or Spencer Reid’s character as a whole, fans absolutely adore the series. So much so, that it has become one of the most watched and beloved crime shows of all time.

While the love that fans have for the series has certainly helped its ratings, at times, their love has also blinded them to a certain degree. This is more true for the case of plot holes. Considering the series is 17 seasons long and running, it is not surprising that some plot holes will appear.
However, there are a few that could completely erase certain characters from the series.

Criminal MindsFans Have a Soft Spot for Joe Mantegna
Joe Mantegna’s David Rossi is one of themost belovedparts ofCriminal Minds.Be it because of his charm and appeal or his general presence in the series, fans absolutely love his character. He has everything to offer his devoted followers, ranging from war stories to excellent meals. Many have been fawning over him throughout his entire time in the series.
Additionally, he has also proved to be an excellent cop, being dedicated to his job in every way possible. However, it would seem that his dedication may have caused him to break basic FBI rules. The real-life age of mandatory retirement is 57. This is not consistent with the series, with Rossi being much older than this.

This job isn’t just what I do, it’s who I am. For every life we save? Damn right it’s worth it.

When he first came out of retirement, he was still meeting these requirements, being in his 50s at the time. However, as the years went on, his character has been listed as much older than the requirement, sitting at 68 years old as of season 17.
Joe Mantegna Does Not Plan on Quitting Anytime Soon
The obvious solution for this inconsistency would be to force Rossi’s character to retire. However, this would not be appreciated by fans or the actor. Recently, Joe Mantegna posted on hisInstagramaccount, celebrating his 77th birthday. In this post, he listed out several things about the series itself, celebrating his birthday around his cast members.

He mentioned how much he loved working on the series, even going as far as to say that he wishes to continue for as long as he possibly can. He mentioned that the series has been going on for nineteen years and added that he has celebrated it for every moment of it.
You only turn 50 once — something like that! All I can say is this. I think of this place as being like a ship, and as being #1 on the call sheet, my only goal in life is to keep this [like]The Love Boat. We’ve all done that together for going on hopefully 19 years. There’s no other place besides with my family that I’d rather be then right here. Thank you very much — I love you all.

With this, one can assume that the actor has no plan to leave the series any time soon, and considering how much fans love him and his character, they can certainly look past this one inconsistency.
Criminal Mindsis available for streaming on Hulu.
