Da’Vine Joy Randolph has won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her phenomenal performance inThe Holdovers. The Paul Giamatti film has been one of the most critically acclaimed features of 2023 and won numerous awards across all the reputed events. While Randolph’s win was expected given her performance in the award season so far, her acceptance speech has won many hearts.

Da’Vine Joy Randolph played the role of a cafeteria manager and a grieving mother, Mary Lamb, inThe Holdovers. The 2023 Alexander Payne directorial focuses on agroup of people forcedto spend the Christmas break in school.
The 37-year-old actress was presented the award by the past winners in the category- Regina King, Jamie Lee Curtis, Rita Moreno, Lupita Nyong’o, and Mary Steenburgen. Randolph became very emotional while accepting the award and thanked her mother for showing her the right direction. She admitted that she started as a singer and never thought about doing this career.

“God is so good. I didn’t think I was supposed to be doing this as a career. I started off as a singer. And my mother said to me, ‘Go across that street to that theatre department. There’s something for you there.’ And I thank my mother for doing that. I thank you to all the people who have stepped in my path and been there for me, who have ushered me and guided me. I am so grateful to all you beautiful people out here. For so long, I’ve always wanted to be different, and now I realize I just need to be myself.”
TheOnly Murders in the Buildingactress has also thanked all the women who were beside her and kept encouraging her. Soon after her win, the fans took over the internet to hail her Oscar speech as one of the greatest.
