This long-awaited mystery thriller had fans talking for months, and after a tug-of-war between Warner Bros. and other studios, it’s finally making its way to the big screen. Starring Michael B. Jordan in a dual role,Sinners‘ first trailer has certainly grabbed attention, but not without controversy. While the eerie and suspenseful footage had intrigued audiences, many fans feel Warner Bros. isn’t doing justice to the film’s marketing.

Some argue that the promotional campaign is too vague, leaving out key details that could draw in a wider audience. As anticipation builds, the question remains, will the film’s mystery be enough to sell itself, or is Warner Bros. keeping too much in the dark?
Why fans think Warner Bros. isn’t doing justice to Michael B. Jordan’sSinners?
The first trailer dropped on September 24th, and in just two minutes, it made one thing clear- Something supernatural and sinister is brewing. According to the official synopsis, twin brothers (both played byMichael B. Jordan) return home hoping for a fresh start, only to find that an even greater evil is waiting for them. As one ominous line warns,“You keep dancing with the devil, one day, he’s gonna follow you home.“
“Sinners”: Cast, Release Date, Plot, and All We Know About Michael B. Jordan’s Next Movie
Before the trailer’s release, rumors swirled that the film was a vampire story. But when the footage finally arrived, it seemed to go out of its way to keep those fangs in the shadows. Fans weren’t thrilled with this approach. What further set fans off was the poster that dropped on January 28th, which completely missed the film’s tone.
Instead of capturing the dark, supernatural essence ofSinners, the poster features Michael B. Jordan flexing his muscles while holding a gun, making it look like a generic action flick rather than a suspenseful horror thriller. Many feel this does a disservice to the film’s true theme, further fueling concerns that Warner Bros. isn’t marketing the movie the right way. Here is what some of them are saying,

This doesn’t say “Vampire Slayer” in anyway what so ever.
man wb does not know how to market this at allhttps://t.co/UMvnYocgSz
from the footage we’ve gotten it looks like the movie is a relatively small scale, sustained horror movie ala john carpenter’s the thing. but the marketing is trying to make it look much bigger than it is. this poster makes it look like an action movie

wild how the vampire aesthetic is having a major moment in media… and they decide to make the poster look like [insert any random masculine blockbuster action flick]
its vampire in 1920s, why are they selling it as jack ryan spinoff

With eerie hints of bloodthirsty creatures lurking in the background, many questioned why Warner Bros. was avoiding the obvious. Some believe embracing the vampire angle head-on could have drawn in a bigger audience, while others feel the mystery is part of the appeal. Either way, the studio’s marketing strategy has sparked a debate, should they have sunk their teeth into the vampire hype or kept things in the dark?
There’s more than what meets the eye!
After keeping fans in suspense for so long, Ryan Coogler finally spilled the truth about what’s really happening inSinners, and surprise, vampires aren’t the only supernatural threat lurking in the shadows.
At a virtual press conference for the trailer launch, Coogler pulled back the curtain, revealing that there’s more to this tale than meets the eye. As reported byThe Hollywood Reporter,he teased that the film holds even deeper, darker secrets waiting to be uncovered. He said,

The film is very genre fluid, It switches in and out of a lot of different genres. Yes vampires are an element, but it’s not the only supernatural element in the movie. The film is about more than just that.
He hinted that there’s more to uncover about the magic-wielding musicians and the mysterious twin connection.Sinnersis also a love letter to American music, diving deep into the blues and its rich cultural history. Only time will tell whatSinnersis really hiding beneath the surface. But one thing’s for sure, fans can’t wait to see what surprises this film has up its sleeve.
