When Thanos wreaked havoc on Earth to destroy half of its population after getting his hands on all the six Infinity Stones inAvengers: Infinity War, a lot of superheroes from multiple franchises in the Marvel Cinematic Universe had to join forces to try and save everyone. This had even the friendly neighborhoodteenageSpider-Man putting a fight against the Mad Titan.

Though the film was as perfect as it was with all its unique elements, it could have been different had some really cool scenes not faced the cutting room floor. Like the one where Gamora’s foster father nearly kills three Guardians of the Galaxy members using one of the Infinity Stones to his advantage before Tom Holland’s Peter Parker swung to the rescue.

Avengers: Infinity WarDeleted Scene Had Thanos Nearly Kill the Guardians

Fans know that films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe are usually met with a lot of deleted scenes when the directors/producers have a change of heart. The same was the case with the 2018 blockbusterAvengers: Infinity Waras well, though one of its deleted scenes shared by@Marvel_Updates_ on Xwas so interesting it would have truly been a cool addition to it.

This scene was from the Titan war sequence and sawTom Holland‘s Peter Parker team up with Pom Klemetieff’s Mantis. In this one scene, Thanos is seen having the upper hand as he not only beats Iron Man up but also uses the Soul Stone to separate threeGuardians of the Galaxysuperheroes’ souls from their bodies: Peter Quill, Drax, and Nebula.

However, they’re not entirely dead yet. Thus, to combat this,Benedict Cumberbatch‘s Doctor Strange uses the Astral Dimension to talk to Parker the same way he did with Christine in his first film when he crashed her hospital unannounced. He tells Parker,“Peter, protect the Guardians. Thanos separated their souls from their bodies. If they are out too long, they will die.”

Of course, Parker doesn’t know how to fix that, but Mantis, who is lying right next to him in the scene, does. Thus, Holland’s friendly neighborhood superhero swings to the rescue and carries all three of them down to the telepathy user to have her wake them up. ButPom Klemetieff‘s character’s initial try doesn’t work, and that makes her all the more scared to try again.

But then Parker once again jumps to the rescue. As she complains that she“can’t”do it,Parker channels his inner mature selfand tries to give his partner the pep-talk with one sentence:“They’re dying, you have to.”That gave the Celestial hybrid empath all the motivation she needed to put her entire strength into reviving her fellow Guardian superheroes, and so she does.

Trying it first on Drax, she holds his face and begs,“Please, don’t leave me.”Inevitably enough, this time,Dave Bautista‘s hero wakes up to say,“Please… move your face.”Getting further encouraged, she then holds Quill’s hand in one hand and Nebula’s in the other and chants with all her strength,“Wake!”Immediately, those two souls return to them as well.

As the two gasp and groan waking up, Holland channels his kid back again as he comically comments,“Hey, you may have hit a couple of things on my way down. Not actually my fault, you’re just super heavy.”As hilarious as this is, this scene would have actually added that soft comical tone to that overall action anddrama-heavysequence.

Marvel Didn’t Have to Fire Jonathan Majors- 1 Way MCU Could’ve Had Both Robert Downey Jr’s Doom and Kang in Avengers: Secret Wars

That said, even fans feel this would have been a cool addition to the film, irrespective of how perfect it may have been even without it.

Fans Believe This Scene Would’ve Been a Cool Addition to the Film

This deleted scene, in particular, perfectly enhances Mantis’ powers and shows her use of them to her full extent. This is why many fans are saying that this scene would have been a worthy addition toInfinity War. At the same time, some other fans seem to be of differing opinions as they point out how not including it was better for one too many reasons.

All in all, here are the fans’ mixed reactions to the same on X:

This would have been a pretty cool scene

Can we have a re-release with all the deleted scenes

Damn, mantis has more power than an infinity stone?! That’s insane

it’s a cool scene but I get why they cut it, it would take away a lot of the impact for when thanos snaps in regards to the guardians since pretty much all of them except for nebula get dusted so having them almost die just for them to actually die would be really deflating

i wish they kept this mantis is such a underrated character

This would have been a good inclusion for Mantis who has been so underused.

cool use of mantis’ powers, but it would not work in the pacing of the movie at all

Marvel Didn’t Have to Fire Jonathan Majors- 1 Way MCU Could’ve Had Both Robert Downey Jr’s Doom and Kang in Avengers: Secret Wars

With all of this being put out there, it’s unarguable that this deleted scene fromInfinity Waroffers a fascinating glimpseinto an alternate version of the film, highlighting the resourcefulness of Peter Parker and Mantis. While its exclusion was likely necessary for pacing, it would have helped truly develop the Celestial hybrid empath’s arc and given an edge to her.

Avengers: Infinity War can currently be watched on Disney+.
