Today, Skybound Games revealed that they will be releasingThe Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Seriesfor PC, PS4, and Xbox One on July 04, 2025. Normally, this release would’ve been notable as it is closing out a critically acclaimed adventure game series that went on for nearly 7 years; that being said, it becomes all the more emotional when you notice this will be the final Telltale release we will ever get.
Telltale Games was the talk of the industry in September 2018 when the critically acclaimed developershockingly shut down, leaving several employees without proper severance and cancelingThe Wolf Among Us Season 2.The Walking Dead: The Final Seasonwas in production at the time, which left its future uncertain. Fortunately, Skybound Games was able to swoop in and rehire several of the game’s developers to complete the project andfinish Clementine’s story. The series wrapped up in March, so it makes sense to follow up with a complete collection of every episode ever released for the series as Telltale had before.
On PS4 and Xbox One,The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Serieswill release both physically and digitally; meanwhile, the PC version will only see a digital launch via the Epic Games Store. The Walking Dead: The Final Seasonwas anEpic Games Store exclusive on PCfollowing its revival soThe Telltale Definitive Series’exclusivity is not surprising.
In addition to the four primary seasons, The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Serieswill also pack in the400 DaysDLC,The Walking Dead: Michonne, developer commentary, concept and character art galleries, a documentary short titledReturn of The Walking Dead, a music player, the option to turn on classic menus, and a filter to make the art style look like that of the comic book. Creative Director Kent Mudle is very proud of that last idea, commenting that “graphic black is a loving tribute to the source material and a powerful art style that makes the game look like a living comic book. An idea the team formulated and perfected with The Final Season, this new visual styling offers longtime fans a way to play the series again in a brand-new light while giving new audiences a smooth visual ride across all seasons.” Animation and lip syncing have also been improved.
