Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power introduced us to several new and familiar characters, but Harfoots are definitely the ones that caught everyone’s attention. Harfoots may seem like Hobbits to everyone who is acquainted with the Lord of the Rings franchise; however, most fans don’t know much about these lovely people.

The series comprises individuals and groups of people who are on their distinct journeys. While the characters like Galadriel and Arondir can be seen on their quest to take down the Dark Lord Sauron, Harfoots care the least about the chaos in the outside world.

In the Rings of Power, Harfoots is a race of people living in Rhovanion, which is towards the northeast of Middle-earth. They are nomadic people who love to live in their own bubble with no contact from the outer world. However, they are known to be on friendly terms with the Dwarves. Among all the Harfoots, only Nori has an urge to explore the world, which is why she easily becomes friends with the “Meteor Man.”

Harfoots can be seen led by a group leader who is known as the Trailfinder. The Trailfinder has a vast knowledge of the skies and uses a book of star constellations to lead the group to a safe place whenever they decide to migrate. In the show, Sadoc Burrows is the leader of the group.

Unlike most characters of the series, Harfoots are weaklings who prefer fleeing from a threat rather than fighting it. That’s the reason why they are highly skilled in camouflage. Their timid nature doesn’t even change for their own people. If an individual or a family of Harfoots fails to catch up with the caravan, they simply leave the family behind to die. Furthermore, if anyone fails to abide by the group’s rules, they are kicked out of the community.

Are Harfoots The Same As Hobbits?

A major question that the fans are asking is if Harfoots are actually Hobbits that we saw in Lord of the Rings. Well, the answer is Yes, as they are one of the three races of Hobbits. The other two kinds of Hobbits are Stoors and Fallohides. However, despite their similar appearance, these races of Hobbits are different from each other in terms of nature and behavior.

Among all three, Harfoots are the most common type of Hobbits with browner skin than the other two. They also lack beards and avoid wearing footwear. Harfoots are known to be quite skillful with their hands and prefer living on highlands and hillsides.

Fallohides are the tallest race of Hobbits and generally have fairer skin and hair. They are known to be proficient hunters and prefer living in woody areas. Interestingly, Frodo - one of the main characters of Lord of the Rings - was Fallohide from her mother’s side. That’s why Gandalf described Frodo as “taller as some (hobbits) as fairer than most.”

Finally, Stoors have a bulkier build with larger foot and hand size compared to the other two, and they prefer living near water bodies.

That said, one thing is common among all types of Hobbits - they don’t prefer leaving their region. So, despite being different races of a similar species, they are hardly known to have come in contact with each other.
