This may come as a surprise to some players, considering this is the only time the game ever asks you to make a decision. Everything else up to this point had to be done in one way and in a linear fashion.

The Midnight Walk Endings Explained

The Midnight Walk Endings Explained

The Midnight Walktells its story in a very unique way. A lot of it is discovered through Story Pages. These arecollectibles that are scattered throughoutthe game’s seven chapters and reveal the truth behind who took the sun away.

However, you don’t need to find all Story Pages to understand the main premise of the game. The world is engulfed in darkness and despair due to the sun being taken away. This is why fire is looked at in such an unusual way by the game’s characters.

The Midnight Walk Burn Ending

“Burn Out” Ending Explained

If you choose the “Burn” option, Potboy will continue burning the weird contraption and completely engulf it in flames. This leads to players bringing the sun back (or a replicated version of it) to the land andearning the Burn Out trophy.

As the sun burns in the distance, the game shows us numerous characters we met on our journey. We can’t really see their expressions, except maybe a small glimpse of hope and shock. But as the land lights up, it gives us a sense of relief that this world is going to be okay.

10 Highly Reviewed Horror Games That Are Overrated

These horror games are beloved for a reason, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t overrated.

This is further presented when the game shows the enemy creatures we faced along the way. Each of these enemies looks terrified, almost as if they know it’s the end for them. The sun being brought back will remove them from this world.

Despite bringing hope to this broken world, Potboy, Housy, and The Burnt One (our main character) arekilled in the fireafter burning the contraption at Moon Mountain. At least, that’s what it seems, since the screen fades to white while they’re in there.

“Fade Away” Ending Explained

If you choose “Stop” at Moon Mountain, then Potboy will stop burning the contraption. This leads to the moon being revealed (or something that looks similar to the moon), and players willearn the Fade Away trophy.

The following scene is almost identical to the other ending, where it shows all the characters and enemy creatures. This time, however, the creatures don’t look terrified.

The last moments of this ending have us taking control of our character again, walking a path with Housy and Potboy. In other words, we have decided tocontinue walking The Midnight Walk. The Fade Away trophy’s description is actually “Continue Walking the Midnight Walk.”

This can be considered the “bad ending,” because the world is still engulfed in darkness. While The Burnt One, Potboy, and Housy are alive and well, they continue to live in this broken world and walk a dangerous path.

Still, there’s also a way to interpret this ending as the characters growing and learning to adapt within the darkness and still making the best of things while remaining together and soldiering on. Ultimately, it’s up to you which ending serves the rest of the game best.
