It’s no secret that not every player finishes a game they buy. Heck, not everyone gets the first “gimme” trophy that many games have for completing simple tasks for the first time, so it’s always nice to get a trophy with a small completion rate after a great game and see what percentage of players have finished it as well. At time of writing,The Last of Us Part IIis sitting at a 60% completion ratefor the trophy tied to the main story. The trophy in question is called “What I Had to Do” and the qualification for it is simply “complete the story.” Because there’s no difficulty tied to the trophy it means that anyone who’s seen the game to the end can get it but having a 60% completion rate is very high for a roughly 24-hour game.
When comparing this trophy to similar completion trophies in other Naughty Dog games, you can see the difference. Only40.4% of players completed the game inThe Last of Us Remasteredon the lowest difficulty setting and35.5% completedUncharted 4.
Additionally, you can see the difference when looking at other big AAA games released this year.39.0% of players finishedDoom: Eternaland45.8% completedÂGhost of Tsushima.
While these completion rates are higher than the widely accepted estimatethat only 20% of players will finish any given game, it just goes to show that there’s something inÂThe Last of Us PartÂIIÂthat people have found gripping until the end.
Despite being divisive among fans, it’s good to know that a portion of the player base surrounding the game is seeing it to the end before jumping on the bandwagon of saying “it’s great because X!” or “it’s terrible because Y!”
