Taylor Sheridan doesn’t hold back when it comes to intense storytelling, andSicarioproved just that. It’s a prime example of what Sheridan can do when he’s at the top of his game. Now, imagine ifYellowstonehad that.

Sicariois the ultimate reminder that Sheridan’s got the skills to deliver something truly epic — when he really wants to. Makes you wonder whatYellowstonecould’ve been if he had poured that same grit into every scene.

Taylor Sheridan’s ToughestSicarioScene ProvesYellowstoneCould’ve Hit Even Harder

In a conversation withVulture,Taylor Sheridanspilled the behind-the-scenes tea on crafting one of the film’s most pivotal scenes — a s*x scene outside a bar — and why it pushed him to his limits. Sheridan explained that the challenge wasn’t just the tension or the stakes; it was figuring out who his protagonist really was.

The toughest part, though? That bar scene went through a major rewrite. Originally a sprawling 14-page sequence, it featured Kate (Emily Blunt) and Reggie (Daniel Kaluuya) talking about America’s fractured identity. Butbudget cuts and creative pivotstrimmed it to six pages — and the intimate conversation gave way to sharp, unscripted moments.

What stayed was Kate’s fateful encounter with Ted (Jon Bernthal). The two engage in casual s*x outside the bar.“Would she be so cavalier?”Sheridan recalled asking himself. But Kate’s loneliness and stress made the choice tragically real (and terrifying). Her decision to let her guard down, if only for one night, nearly got her killed. Sheridan revealed,

The whole bar scene was too expensive of a sequence — like 14 pages total. So Denis and producers asked, “Can you take those 14 pages and condense them into six?”…  So all the conversations they had about America were gone, and instead they ad-libbed, and we cut straight from them dancing in the bar to the apartment.

He continued,

At first I thought, It can’t be her apartment, can it? Would she be so cavalier about having casual s*x? But she was so lonely and stressed — everyone has been in that situation when you’re single, you’ve had a terrible week, and you think, By God, I deserve to get drunk and sleep with someone I don’t know!

It’s a common way of dealing with stress, right? So she lets her guard down for a second, and it almost gets her killed. That whole sequence by far was the hardest thing I had to do.

The scene, Sheridan confessed, was the hardest thing he had to do. Yet its brutal authenticity cementedSicario’s reputation as a modern masterpiece — and gave a glimpse of the raw, unfiltered storytellingTaylor Sheridan could’ve brought toYellowstone.

How Taylor Sheridan Secretly Teased theYellowstoneEnding in1883

TheYellowstonefinale hit us with a surprisingly full-circle ending, but here’s the plot twist: Taylor Sheridan spilled thebeans way back in the1883finale. Remember Spotted Eagle’s prophecy to James Dutton (Tim McGraw?) The spotted eagle’s words:

After seven generations, my people will rise up and take it back from you.

James Dutton replied,

In seven generations, you can have it.

Fast-forward to the finale, and Kayce and Beth Dutton made it happen. Instead of selling the ranch, they handed it back to its original stewards, the Native Americans. Sheridan tied it all back to where it all began. Sneaky, brilliant, and honestly? Kind of genius.
