10 Best PS Plus Classics With Trophy Support
Play retro gems and get trophies. Simple as that!
If you’re looking for something new that might be a bit of a deeper cut, however, the PS Plus Extra lineup offers plenty of fun and unique lesser-known options to jump into as well.

Let’s take a look at some that stand out from the crowd. Some are more obscure than others, but they’re all worthy of more attention than they tend to get.
Animal Well
A Masterful Metroidvania
There are plenty of Metroidvania experiences for fans of the genre these days, butAnimal Welldoes its part to still feel like something new.
As I led my orange blob character through the labyrinth of the well, the eerie and ever-changing vibe of the world kept me hooked and intrigued to see what came next.

Controls are simple, platforming is tight and satisfying, and the map is full of secrets and places to explore. I think there’s a real debate that Animal Well is now the best Metroidvania on PS Plus.
The game was a2024 Game Awards nomineefor Best Independent Game, but it still deserves the attention and time of more players.

Children of Morta
A Rogue-Lite Role-Playing Family Affair
Children of Morta immediately caught my eye with its breathtaking presentation and captivating narration. The story follows The Bergsons, a family of playable characters each with unique skills that must band together to protect their homeland from The Corruption.
Combat is deep, with skills and weapons to unlock for each character, and dungeons are procedural, meaning no two play-throughs will be the same. It’s a great mashup of family-focused narrative, rogue-lite elements, and fast-action gameplay all wrapped in an interesting fantasy/sci-fi setting.

If you enjoyed the blend of intense action and hub-world storytelling ofHades, this title will strike a chord with you, too.
Grime: Definitive Edition
A Challenging Sci-Fi Side-Scroller
It doesn’t take long to jump into Grime: Definitive Edition and discover that it’s part of the ever-growing group ofgreat Souls-Like gamescoming out in recent years.
Your character (who kind of looks like Midra fromElden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree) is leveling up stats like Strength and Dexterity for weapon usage, parries are king, you’re juggling health and stamina, the narrative is abstract, and there’s a punishing psuedo-bonfire system.
10 Best Classic Games On PS Plus
It’s time to relive the classics.
Despite this, Grime still feels wholly unique with its FromSoftware leanings paired amazingly with slick side-scrolling platforming and a suitably grimy-feeling alien world full of unsettling creatures to smash up. It all comes together in the perfect mix of weird, gross, and just plain cool.
I particularly loved finding new gear and weapons to test out, which felt extra unique in a side-scroller and kept the action from becoming too samey.
Metal: Hellsinger
If Doom Guy Was A Rock Star
The Doom series is perpetually linked with metal music, but here we have a game that takes this combination one step further.
Featuring musical contributions from members of legendary metal bands such as Lamb of God, Trivium, and System of a Down,Metal: Hellsingeris a rhythm shooter/slasher where attacks done to the beat of the in-game music do bonus damage.
You’ll be tasked with leading your heroine, The Unknown, on a brutal journey through Hell to recover her voice and memories.
Once you get into the groove of this game and have adapted to the unique timing, there are few others that feel as gratifying to rip (and headbang) through.
Even if you’re not a metalhead, this game shreds.
A Chaotic And Brutal Retro-Style FPS
One quick glance at Prodeus, and anybodywould mistake it for one of the original 2.5D Doom shooters. While that might make it seem like a knock-off on the surface, that’s not the case.
Prodeus isn’t a cheap copy. It’s an expertly crafted love letter that has something deeper to say about Artificial Intelligence and corruption.
Like the games that inspired it, Prodeus is a lightning-fast, chaotic, and bloody FPS with truly gorgeous retro-style art. Taking the formula of an original Doom title and modernizing it while keeping all its pixelated roots intact works masterfully.
And yes, I did still main the shotgun. It’s as simple yet brutally effective as it always is.
Stylish Deck-Building With Tabletop Elements
If you’re a big fan ofthe best board games, Roguebook’s mechanics are sure to appeal. Another entry with a lot of influence from a better-known title, Roguebook takes the deck-building formula and combat ofSlay the Spireand expands it out into an experience with a more robust overworld to interact with between the card-based battles.
Players earn ink from each encounter to unlock new routes and pages in a mysterious storybook they’re trapped inside of.
As a hugeSlay the Spire fan, I thought the combat felt comfortingly familiar, while still boasting the fun added twist of controlling multiple party members. It’s a dance between offense and defense as you swap your characters around on screen.
There’s nothing better than crushing a run with the perfectly balanced stack of cards, as you lead your characters to the next unfolding chapter.
Sakuna: Of Rice And Ruin
Gorgeous Platformer Meets Rice Farming Sim
Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin
Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruinfollows the story of an initially immature, not entirely sober goddess who has grown bored with her duties.
After an unfortunate mishap, she’s divinely tasked with banding together with a ragtag group of humans to cull an island of evil and farm rice fields to replenish a ruined offering.
10 Best Classic JRPGs on PS Plus
With the JRPG making a comeback recently, it’s no wonder that Sony has capitalized on the trend by having many of the classic JRPGs available on PS Pl
There’s a surprising amount of fun story to enjoy, as the gameplay swaps between side-scrolling melee combat with an awesome grappling hook mechanic to a more laid-back rice farming experience back at the farm.
A constant loop of fighting and resource gathering, mixed with farming, gives this title a cozy vibe without sacrificing snappy traversal and gnarly combos.
The Forgotten City
A Narrative Time Loop Mystery With Multiple Endings
The development of The Forgotten City alone is an interesting story. Originally a Skyrim mod, it quickly became so beloved that it spun off into a full-fledged, standalone experience.
After you wake up with amnesia on a riverbank, The Forgotten City wastes no time throwing you into a world of murder, mystery, and time travel. The setting of Ancient Rome looks incredible and is full of fleshed out NPCs to meet… and kill.
The kicker with this title is that on top of everything else, it’s hilarious. Your first Ancient Roman encounter will tell you the year is 817 A.U.C., to which you can respond, “that doesn’t help me. Is this before or after Christ?” Expect this writing tone to continue as you explore your way to one of multiple game endings.
The Pedestrian
An Amazingly Creative Puzzle Game
The Pedestrian is one of the most unique puzzle games available on PlayStation systems. Taking control of the stick-figure human symbol you’d see on a bathroom door or at a crosswalk, you’re tasked with leading your friend through street signs and TV screens to solve puzzle after puzzle.
There’s some light platforming here as well, but the gameplay mostly hinges on physically rearranging signage to open new paths, connecting ladders, finding keys, and flipping elevator switches to unlock whatever comes next for the intrepid Stickperson. It’s a wickedly clever brain-buster replete with charm, style, and construction work.
A Unique Pikmin-Like With Radical Platforming
If you’re a PlayStation owner with a softspot for Nintendo, like me, allow me to introduceTinykin. Immediately, this title is clearly pulling from games like thePikminseries: Your crash-landed main character, Milo, gathers, leads, and throws around creatures called Tinykin to solve puzzles, gather human artifacts, and settle disputes between warring factions of bugs.
Traversal is a blast as you slide around skateboard-style on a bar of soap, grinding on surface edges and wires to reach new locations. Milo can also float around in a bubble to cross gaps.
Everything here feels great to control, and the Cartoon Network-esque art style is an absolute joy to behold.
