Initially, the game lets youcreate up to three of these doppelgänger crewmateswithout any restrictions. However, when you hit your third Alter, the game won’t let you create any more, no matter how much Rapidium you’ve stockpiled.
This is because you need to raise your Qubit Level. Something that the game never explains how to increase. So, if you want more hands on deck and want to find a way to raise your Qubit level, we have you covered.
How To Raise Your Qubit Level
To raise your Qubit level, you need a Qubit Chip. A resource that can be entered into the Quantum Computer to raise your Qubit Level, which will grant you access to new research as well as the ability to create more Alters.
However, this isn’t something that can be simply researched or crafted.These chips are finite and can only be found by searching the planet across the game’s various acts.
Qubit Chips & How To Use Them
Qubit Chips, as mentioned, are found on the planet’s surface and tend to be located in areas where you will need to upgrade your gear to access them.
For example, in Act One,you will need to craft a Climbing Hook and a Vertara Drill to access the area where your first potential chip is located.
These are technically missable resources, but if you explore the whole area diligently, you shouldn’t have too much trouble finding them.
When you find these chips, they won’t be in working condition, and after a conversation with Jan Scientist, you’ll learn that you need to take them to the Workshop Module for some TLC.
You’ll need to have the following resources to hand to repair your Damaged Chip.
Then, after you repair the chip, all you need to do is head to the Quantum Computer, and this will immediately prompt you to raise your Qubit Level.
