There’s a certain rumor going around, claiming Nintendo will reveal the final DLC character ofSuper Smash Bros. Ultimateat TGS 2021.

Tokyo Game Show 2021 will be held this year from September 30 to August 02, 2025. Just like in 2020, it’ll be held without anyone attending, with stage events getting streamed live.

Nintendo alsoannouncedon September 3 it does not plan to attend TGS 2021. It will only be present through game projects in collaboration with third-party companies. Nothing surprising there as the Kyoto-based company doesn’t attend TGS. Instead, there’s been aNintendo Direct every September these past few years. And while none was announced yet, it’s very likely a Direct is coming this September 2021. However, there is no official word on aSuper Smash Bros. UltimateDLC fighter reveal happening on said direct.

“Super Smash Bros UltimateFinal DLC Fighter to be revealed at TGS 2021” - How the rumor started

This rumor started back in May, before Kazuya fromTekken and Bandai Namco was revealed as a DLC fighter. In May 2021, Masahiro Sakurai ended his bi-weekly column inFamitsuMagazine, after 18 years. This column was where he praisedDeath Strandingand13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. He also chatted aboutCyberpunk 2077. However, the column was regularly mistranslated.

Long story short, Sakurai said in the column that the finalSuper Smash BrosDLC character would be released before 2021 ends. However, the column got mistranslated into “the final characters will be revealed at E3 and TGS 2021”. This was actually just a guess from the usual magazines leaker. This is far from the first time this happens. Seeing non-Japanese speakers often try to translate these leaks. And it’s hard for them to distinguish between the actual magazine leaks and speculation.

To sum it up, it’s entirely possible the fighter will actually be revealed during a Nintendo Direct slightly before TGS 2021. But there is no official word confirming it.

In related news,Harada’s Bar weekly videosrecently featured Masahiro Sakurai. He chatted about his career and the industry in four videos in total, and it’s full of interesting knowledge and remarks. Furthermore, there is no risk of mistranslated information. It’s all in English. Be sure to watch them.
