Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice Leaguewill now launch on July 15, 2025, after being originally scheduled for May 26 this year (via thestudio’s official Twitter). Much like every other delay in the industry, the studio promised that it will continue to polish the game and create the “best quality experience” for players until February arrives.

The decision felt rather perplexing as the game has had enough time to cook since leaving itsoriginal 2022 release window. Thenew May 2023 release datewas announced during the 2022 Game Awards, and then the studio followed up with a February showcase that revealed the game was pretty much done. However, the showcase also shed light on several core aspects of the gameplay, such as thealways-online feature, the cosmetics-only Battle Pass, the update-centric story progression, and the gear system.

The decision to implement these “live service” elements is quite controversial in our modern age, and both our writers Elijah Beahm and Jack Peachey agreed that these elements were a sign of something worse, an impending disaster in the form of a very costly and time-consuming grind fest. Elijah eloquentlyexplained the intricacies of the Gear Scoremodel that Suicide Squad adopts, while Jack’s hypothesisused the release modelofMarvel’s Avengersas a basis for predicting that Suicide Squad will follow a similar monetization scheme and eventuallybite the dust just as Marvel’s Avengers did.

That said, fans should not expect the future of the game to be any different, according tothe ever-reliable Jason Schreier. Schreier firstspoke about the delay last month, adding that the delay is mainly for the sake of polishing the game. This means that Suicide Squad will not address any concerns about the live service elements and other monetization plans, and reiterated that"nine months is not enough time to completely change the nature of a game".

Schreier also debunked the idea that a marketing demo (no matter how finished it might appear) is indicative of the final state of the game, a statement proven by a lot of unfinished releases likeCyberpunk 2077,Anthem, and many others. Fans continue tohurl criticism and requests at Suicide Squadat the moment, asking for the removal of all live service and online requirements, but it is currently unknown if their pleas will be heard.
