Yesterday afternoon,Bethesda Studiosdeployed a brand-new update forStarfield. The update is currently only available in Steam Beta, with a full release coming “soon,” according to Bethesda.
The update, which makes new graphical improvements, stability fixes, and other miscellaneous changes, also appears to have updated some of the game’s water reflections. The change isn’t listed in the patch notes, so it appears to only be a minor addition, but fans over on the Starfield subreddit certainly appreciate the visual improvement.

Starfield Player Discovers Handy Manipulation Trick To Repair Ship On The Go
Through the power of manipulation, you too can repair your ship from anywhere in the galaxy.
The upgraded water reflections were discovered by Reddit userOkPain2022, who took before and after screenshots of a lake on an unknown planet. The screenshots did cause some controversy, however, as other members of the Starfield community believed that the actual differences were difficult to see due to the before being taken in the day and the after being taken at night.

Nevertheless, there were plenty of users who believed the differences were clear. Check them out for yourself in the images below.
Users quickly pointed out that the surrounding hills to the right of the images now have adequate reflections, whereas previously the only reflection present in the water was the large mountain in the center. Another key difference is that the reflection of the central mountain appears to be much smoother, with the first image appearing fairly jagged around the edges.

“Noticed it too. Water shading is more fluid, looks much better. On some systems, the water looks golden or reddish depending on light - sunset at the water edge are even more visually appealing,” one user said. Another pointed out that there are “more ripples” in the water and the water itself appears “to actually be a volume.”
As for other changes in the recent beta update, Bethesda has also added support for AMD FSR 3 and Intel XeSS. There are also multiple graphical improvements and a few bug fixes. If you’d like to check out the full change log, head over to the officialBethesda websitefor more details.
