Unlocking and Using Photo Mode in Starfield
The first time players will have access to Photo Mode inStarfieldis when they land on Kreet and unlock the Scanner, which is pretty early on in the game itself. Once that’s done, there are a couple of ways to access Photo Mode.
Players can either open the Scanner and find the Photo Mode option there or pause the game, go into the System menu, and select it from there. Accessing it via the Scanner does make it feel a bit more immersive, though.

Once in Photo Mode, players will see the option to take a picture. As soon as they take one, the image gets saved in the in-game Photo Gallery.
To look at their captured moments, players can go to the Photo Gallery in the System menu, located right below the Photo Mode option. This makes it easy to look back on all the shots they’vetaken during their adventure, similar to the gallery in other games.
The game does have plenty of planets, locations, and moments worth capturing, so the inclusion of a quick and snappy Photo Mode is more than welcome.
Customization Options in Photo Mode
The customization options inStarfield’sPhoto Mode are pretty impressive and extensive, with a lot of different choices and features.
First, there are three different camera types: Free, Orbital, and Selfie. The Free camera lets players move around freely and take shots from any angle, even if the subject is far away. The Orbital camera keeps the character in the middle and lets the camera orbit around them. Lastly, there’s the Selfie mode, which lets players capture moments right from the front of their character.
After choosing the camera type, there’s a camera roll setting that allows players to tilt their shots left or right. This is pretty helpful for when they want to change the angle a little bit toget a more artistic or specific shot.
One of the standout features of Photo Mode is the depth of field control. When players turn it on, they get a bunch of settings to adjust, like strength, near plane, far plane, and blend.
These settings help blur the background or foreground, putting focus on the main subject of the shot. It’s perfect for getting more cinematic photos that look pretty cool.
Can You Recruit Yourself in Starfield?
For players who want to focus on their character, there are options to turn the player model on or off. If they want a scenic shot without their character in it, they can just turn it off.
But if they want to include their character, there’s a pose category with lots of options to choose from. They can also leave it on“none”if they prefer a more natural shot.
