Announced back in early 2018,Star Renegadesis an upcoming Roguelike strategy-RPG by Toronto based developerMassive Damage Games(creators ofHalcyon 6: Starbase Commander). Up until today, the game was tentatively scheduled for release in 2020, however, the developers have now confirmedStar Renegadesis set to launch on PC on September 8th this year.
According to Massive Damage, the game will be releasing on PC (via Steam) as well as Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One. The console versions release date has yet to be confirmed but is still slated to be released at some point “this year.”
In their announcement, Massive Damage Games said:
War waged for generations to stop the Imperium’s control of the galaxy. Now it’s up to you to lead the rebellion:Star Renegades, the tactical rogue-like RPG from Massive Damage Games (Halcyon 6: Starbase Commander) and Raw Fury, is coming to PC via Steam on Sept. 8, 2020, for $24.99. The game will come to Playstation®4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One later this year.
The game was also given a new trailer (above) to help announce the release date. The new footage shows off the games unique take on the pixel-art style and some of the giant robot enemies you will be facing. It also details some of the features including the “evolving adversaries” and the “dozens of characters and upgrades” you will be able to unlock as you progress.
Star Renegadesis a futuristic strategy-RPG with roguelike elements in which you have to outsmart “AI-driven adversaries, forging friendships, and toppling galactic empires spanning over multiple generations.” The game is also described as having a “reactive, turn-based battle system with a procedurally generated campaign to ensure that every playthrough is unique and challenging.”
I got a chance tocheck the first couple of missions of the game out in a hands-on-preview, and enjoyed what I played saying, “The combat inStar Renegadesis extremely tactical and is all about being opportunistic and having a solid but adaptable plan.” and that it’s “certainly one to keep an eye out for.”
As mentioned above, StarRenegadeslaunches on PC this September 8 and will be followed by released on Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One later this year.
