After mining and refinery, the next big job in Star Citizen is going to be salvaging. The job will feature different mechanics, including hull scraping, which is the main focus of the latest episode ofInside Star Citizen.
As the developers reveal, one of the biggest changes coming to the game in the future is the addition of salvaging and hull scraping, which will help you to extract valuable materials out of exploded or abandoned ships in space or on planets. With hull scraping, you will be able to burn the surface of ships and extract its valuable resources, which can then be sold to the market.

Similar to mining, salvaging is also expected to become a popular job in Star Citizen and the developers know it better than us, and that’s why they are already working on a solely salvage-focused ship, which is in the very final stages of development.
Drake Vulture is your new one-man salvage army that will allow you to earn money from salvaging and hull scraping on your own. The ship features two long wings that allow hull scraping. On the other hand, you can expect 16 SCU of cargo space that will save your hull scraping materials. However, that would be enough for mass salvage work, and you will probably need a bigger ship with higher cargo space.
Hopefully, Drake Vulture can pack the materials in large cargo boxes, which will make it much easier to transfer them from Vulture to a cargo ship.
In addition to Drake Vulture, salvaging and hull scraping will also be possible in some bigger ships as well, however, in this case you will need a few companions to smoothly extract materials, pack them, and send them to the cargo space of your ship.
Aside from salvaging by ships, the new ISC video also reveals the in-person salvage using a multi-tool. In this case, you can extract small amount of material and use it to repair your own ship.
Salvaging doesn’t have an official release window, but it might be one of the surprises for Alpha 3.18 as Drake Vulture is almost ready to launch.
