A promising Kickstarter for a promising 2D platformer, with a pedigree of being worked on by one of the mainSonic Maniadevelopers, tragically couldn’t find its success story.Vertebreakerwas an upcoming hopeful that mixed fun looking 2D 16-bit graphics with Sega Genesis-like sound and style. Unfortunatelythe campaignonly raised 5 percent of its total goal in a week, with momentum dropping to nothing very quickly.
As such Headcannon Games developer Stealth, real name Simon Thomley, confirmed on both the Kickstarter page and a new video that he was officially cancelling the campaign. Citing that it was a “spectacular failure” he states the reasons for its failure in the video below, before thanking each of his 480 backers that pledged $13,996 of the $275,000 needed to realize the game’s creation:
Stealth also stated in the video that he would love to revisit the game at a future time once they restructure the entire campaign. His last update for the Kickstarter campaign goes as follows:
Although we appreciate each of the many people who backed us, this campaign was an overall failure. In the first few minutes of this video, Stealth goes into detail about why the campaign was handled the way it was. The rest is dedicated to all of our backers.
