Despite the fantastic end product with the Silent Hill 2 remake,the developers let a different version of the famous Dog Endingslip through the crackswhen shipping the game out.
Mira, The Puppeteer
TheSilent Hillseries has a running gag involving the dog Mira, a Shiba Inu who has appeared in almost all titles. The originalSilent Hill 2was no exception.
After finding a room key in the Lakeview Hotel, James opens the door to find the imponent Mira, revealed to be the puppet master running the horrors happening in the game.
If you play theSilent Hill 2remake today on the current version, you will find a similar scene. However,PlayStation 5 users playing from the disc running 1.00 version have access to a different, fantastic takeon the dog ending.
In the exclusive version, James opens the door, gun drawn, to find Mira wearing her finest gamer headset and doing a Dr. Evil chair spin.
Right as a shocked James prepares to pull the trigger,Mira smashes a pleasantly large red button that sends her would-be killer into a T-pose, beforerocking outon a colorful drum machine-style keyboard.
The buttons transform our hero James Sunderland into a flurry of Silent Hill 2 characters.The transformations break him mentally until Mira approaches him and gives him a nice couple of face licksto cheer him up.
Tragically, owners of other platforms or the PS5 digital edition cannot enjoy this version of the dog ending.
It appearsthis was an early version Bloober Team eventually scrappedin favor of a more faithful rendition of the original, so it is only available in the disc versions produced ahead of the launch.
Time will tell whether the Secret Dog Ending is popular enough to make 1.00 discs a collector’s item some years down the line.
