Barry Keoghan Had a Twisted Sense of Humor When on Medication
Since this horrifying incident took place right as filming forThe Banshees of Inisherinwas to begin, Martin McDonagh went to visit Barry Keoghan in the hospital. It was revealed by the director that the actor was under some sort of medication that led to him being not in complete control of his senses. He revealed that the actor told the filmmaker, a few days before production, that he would make his way onto set in four days, all the while having his has swollen.
“I’m not sure if he was on a lot of meds, but he seemed to shrug it off,”McDonagh said.“We were only about four days out from shooting, and his arm was puffed up. But he was like, ‘Yeah, no, I’m going to be fine—I’ll see you on Tuesday.’ I went to the hospital thinking, Shit—is he going to die? Let alone, is he going to make the movie. But I came out of there energized and looking forward to it.”

McDonagh recalled that this was particularly a funny moment as when he went to the hospital, his priorities and concerns were nowhere related to the film and its production. He mentioned that he was afraid that the actor was going to die, and not that production would be delayed. He finished by adding that after this encounter, he left the hospital a lot more optimistic.
