Just days after dropping the final batch of episodes for Secret Level season one, Tim Miller’s ode to the wide world of video games has gone from critically acclaimed torenewed for a second seasonbyAmazon. Now, along with his supervising director Dave Wilson,Miller sat down in a Collider interviewto discuss everything Secret Level, present and future.
Season One was Originally Longer
One of the big takeaways from Miller and Wilson’s interview was that when originally pitched to Amazon all the way back in 2021, the initial season of Secret Level was expected to be 18 episodes instead of the 15 episodes viewers ended up with. Miller cites how many things can change from what the show looks like when first pitched compared to once you’re in the thick of making it along with potential hiccups with certain ideas from a game IP and legal standpoint.
When asked directly, both Miller and Wilson state that the lost episodes from season one will not shift over into whatever season two turns into. However, the pair vaguely teased the concept of returning to a game from season one, marking potential connections and continuations between episodes.

Wilson even went out on a limb talking about how he floated the idea of putting two titles into one huge episode, a video game crossover event, specifically withMaster ChiefandDoom Slayer, but the game companies shot him down. Even with that being said, you really get an idea for how creative the team is behind Secret Level.
Season two could see a more retro-style approach, as both Miller and Wilson stated their interest in O.G. titles like Centipede and Pong. Wilson discusses how creative they could get with how grounded and simple the game IPs would be compared to some of the bigger triple-A titles.

The pair give a bit of insight to their approach with specific titles, like the Concord episode from season one, stating that a third of the episodes from season one were made for games that hadn’t even dropped to the public yet.
The Future of Secret Level
The overall sentiment from Miller and Wilson towards the future is sort of optimistically up in the air. Riding off the show’s success so far is something in the back of their minds regarding creative avenues opening up on potentially bigger game titles. The duo teases the idea of not just looking at older classics of the gaming world, but maybe even a dip into sports-based games as one of their producers is a massive sports guy.
The only thing both Miller and Wilson seem keen on for season two and the future in general is sticking to a yearly calendar with their releases, making sure the quality is always there, even if it means a longer wait for fans. Regardless, the sky is truly the limit for Miller and Wilson, but they’ve got big shoes to fill now after the success of season one and its many cameos from Keanu Reeves and Kevin Hart, to name a few.
