Robert Downey Jr. Continues Channeling His Inner Tony Stark This Award Season

After marking his first win at the Critics’ Choice Awards,Robert Downey Jr., who previously earned noms forTropic Thunder,The Avengers, andIron Man 3, pulled off a full Tony Stark at the ceremony. While it was only a subtle dig at the now-defunct Hollywood Foreign Press in his Golden Globes speech, RDJ doubled down on his ways, delivering a more hilarious speech at the Critics’ Choice Awards.

Recounting some of the most not-so-stellar criticisms over his past performance from critics, many of whom could’ve been sitting in the same room, RDJsaid,

Robert Downey Jr.

“I was thinking this morning: I love critics. They’ve given me such beautiful feedback, really just so many great moments, and some of it is so poetic, I just want to share some of their thoughts with you over the years… The first one is kind of like haiku: ‘Sloppy, messy, and lazy.’ The next one is more metaphoric: ‘Like Pee-wee Herman emerging from a coma.”He continued,“This was from a Brit: ‘A puzzling waste of talent.’ And lastly, and this one lingered: ‘Amusing as a bed-locked fart.’”

With RDJ channeling out more of his Tony Stark persona with each passing speech, it’ll be enticing to see what the actor has stored for fans at the Oscars if he secures a win.

Robert Downey Jr. Feels Some of His Best Works Have Gone Unnoticed

WhileOppenheimerfinally brought Robert Downey Jr. deserved critical acclaim after years of maintaining an empty bucket at the Awards season, the actor feels his work as Iron Man went a“bit unnoticed.”Considering his role as Tony Stark was much more than the funny quips, especially inIron Man 3, which earned him a nod at the Critics’ Choice Award, RDJ deemed his stint playing Tony as some of his best works.

However, following the stigma surrounding the genre, which is often criticized for resorting to mediocrity, it’s reasonable to see why this was the case.
