Keycard is an item in Risk of Rain Returns only available on the sixth and final stage of any run: Contact Light. The basic layout of Contact Light remains mostly the same, which means finding Keycards is, in fact, easier than finding any other item in the game. A Keycard’s only purpose is to open four locked doors leading to optional areas on the map.
Risk Of Rain Returns: How To Find Every Prismatic Shard
There’s secrets abound on Petrichor V. Here’s where every Prismatic Shard is, and what they unlock.
The path leading to the final boss fight against Providence does not require using the Keycard. But I’d always recommend finding and using Keycards because the optional rooms they open up lead to tons of chests with useful items inside them. You want the boost in your Survivor’s effectiveness, especially if you’re playing on Rainstorm or Monsoon difficulty.

Where To Find Keycards
There aretwo waysof finding a Keycard.
Inside Golden Chests
These are unique chests only found on Contact Light, and they always contain a single Keycard. There are betweentwo and three Golden Chestson Contact Light, meaning you can get three Keycards from just chests. These Golden Chests don’t require gold to open.
Drops From Enemies
Elites in Risk of Rain Returns have a chance of dropping a Keycard. Your best bet on finding one as soon as possible is to activate the consoles leading to the boss room one by one and defeat the enemies that spawn in to stop you. If you may’t find it here, just keep farming the map until one drops from an enemy. During my runs, it almost always drops from a randomElder Lemurianwhile defending the bridge console.
Risk Of Rain Returns: How To Unlock All Characters
There are 16 unique Survivors in Risk of Rain Returns. Here is a guide on how to unlock every single one of them.
How To Use Keycards
There are exactly four locked doors that can be opened with a Keycard in Contact Light, meaning you never need more than four Keycards. The game even indirectly tells you this through theEndless Voyager achievement, which requires collecting four Keycards during a single run.
The locked doors are easy to find. Just keep going right from where you spawn first on the map until you see a big sign on the hull saying Bridge. Just before reaching this sign, you’ll find a series of ladders leading down and up. Two of the locked doors are down, and two of them are up above. Here is a breakdown of what you’ll find in them.

Take the ladders to the top and turn rightto find the Armory. There are a few chests here with items and an equipment chest to replace your current one, but the star of the show is theGauss Cannonon the second platform in this room. Interacting with the Gauss Cannon will transport it from this area to the final boss room, allowing you to use it against Providence during the final fight.
To the left of the Armoryis another locked door leading to the Storage. The Storage has a ridiculous number of item chests that can be opened if you have money. At this point in the game, the monsters spawn so frequently that you’ll have more than enough coins to spare, allowing you to take full advantage of this room.

If you have a character with some vertical movement, like the Loader or the Pilot, you canaccess the Storage room without using a Keycard. Go back to the Bridge sign and go left until you see a hole in the ceiling. Use your movement ability to go through it and to the other side and take the rope on the left to enter the Storage Room. This way, you can save a Keycard.
Medical Bay
Take the ladders down from the Bridge and go leftto find the Medical Bay. Use a Keycard to enter, and you’ll find quite a few containers that grant healing. Use them to heal back to full and look for theSurgical Bedon the second platform. Interacting with it will transport it to the boss room just like the Gauss Cannon. This is even more useful than the Cannon as it allows you to heal back to full during the fight against Providence.
To the right of the Medical Bay, you’ll find the Cabin. The Cabin contains a few dead drones and an equipment chest. If you jump off the edge to the right of the Cabin, you may find a secret room with a chest that transports your current equipment to the next run’s second stage. Using this chest is also the only way tounlock the secret Survivor, Robomando.

Just like the Storage room, you can also access the Cabin without using a Keycard if you have a character with enough movement abilities. To do so, you’ll need to get on the roof of Contact Light from the top left corner of the map, go to the right edge, and jump off.
