Rise of the Roninis a brand-new IP developed by Team Ninja and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment that takes place in Japan but during a different period in time from fellow PlayStation franchise,Ghost of Tsushima. Despite being set in the same country, these two games have a lot of differences, the gameplay in Team Ninja’s latest makesGhost of Tsushimalook like an easier Soulslike game designed for players that aren’t too keen on difficult gameplay.

There was a time when fans thought that this game was a sequel or a spin-off of the 2020 hit samurai game but it is not even close, they may share the same publisher but that’s about it. The developers opted that the game should take place during the Bakumatsu period, and based on the footage that was showcasing the variety of weapons, it does seem likeRise of the Roninwill have more refined combat system thanGhost of Tsushima.

The developers are no strangers to creating games that highlight Japanese culture like the way of the samurai and ninjas. Team Ninja also developed theNiohseries as well as the hack-and-slashNinja Gaidengames that a rival company, Microsoft, published for the Xbox 360. Their history and experience are sufficient for building a brand-new IP.

Footage of the upcoming game features the use of the katana. This common samurai weapon heavily resembles the animations ofSekiro: Shadows Die TwiceandGhost of Tsushima, but also the use of firearms like rifles for long-distance combat or to strike enemies from a distance.
