When Henry Cavill’s Superman was first introduced to audiences by Zack Snyder in 2013’sMan of Steel, it was evident that this version of DC’s greatest superhero would be different in many ways. Not only was Cavill’s Superman a darker and edgier portrayal, it was also a sketch that showed vulnerable elements of the character including guilt, regret, and a volatility that was evident inSuperman vs Batman: Dawn of Justice.

Cavill though, has always steered clear of controversial analysis when it comes to dissecting the various nuances of Superman. When asked to comment the religious connotations that existed within the character, the DC star confessed that he preferred to stay away from these comparisons.

Henry Cavill Was Wary Of Religious References To Superman
Henry Cavill’sversion of Superman went beyond the tangible superhero qualities that was synonymous with the iconic DC superhero. The star’s portrayal went deeper into the raw and vulnerable emotions of the character that showed a more human side to Superman. The actor on many instances, has spoken about how these aspects of superheroism came at a price for Superman.
In an interview withEntertainment Weekly, Cavill was also asked to comment on the various theological parallels that could be drawn from his version of Superman and his actions in the world.The Witcherstar in no uncertain terms, confessed that he did not believe in making religious comparisons between Superman and God as this was a controversial space.

“I do my best to draw parallels just between mythological heroes if I can, and yeah, because religion’s a dangerous ground. That’s a minefield”.
Cavill stated that he wished to view Superman as someone who can be relatable while having the same insecurities, vulnerabilities, and challenges like anyone else.

Henry Cavill’s casting as Superman has been widely considered as one of the perfect choices for the role. Despite this, the actor himself had trepidations about his chances to portray the iconic character. Cavill’s doubts arose from the fact that the weight he had lost to star inBruce Willis’The Cold Light of Dayprior to the Superman audition, did not coordinate with the desire physique that the superhero required. Speaking of his fear after seeing himself for the first time in the iconic suit, the actor confessed toEntertainment Weekly,
“All I could think was: ‘Oh, god. They’re going to look at me and go ‘He’s not Superman. Not a chance.’ The actor inside me was going, ‘You’re not ready! You’re not ready.”

Cavill ultimately got the part thanks to Zack Snyder who saw the spark of Superman in him. As it turned out, the actor’s portrayal of the superhero is still considered one of the best among all celebrities who have played the part.
