Fallout, as with any other storied series of its kind, has its fair share of good and bad characters. While some are there just to provide some throwaway comic relief, many help you drive the plot to its conclusion by either getting you there, providing a lengthy side-story to keep you intrigued, or fighting you along the way. Here are some of the most influential Fallout stars ever.

DiMa is an android synth fromFallout 4’s Far Harbor DLC. He serves as the leader of a synth settlement, where synths can be welcome among their own. He’s also the central character influencing many of the DLC endings.
DiMa condemns his creators, the Institute, and their actions, and tries to show that humans and synths can live in peace. The problem is that he killed and replaced a person to ensure escaping synths will be safe. He deleted this memory and is horrified when he learns what he’s done. It’s at this point that his character can really come through, as you have a choice to either use his aid or persuade him to seek justice. Being focused on the DLC offerings, however, many players may never have met DiMa.

9Mr. House
The proprietor of the New Vegas strip, Mr. House is a character central to the events of New Vegas. He’s a greedy genius, able to sustain his life for more than 200 years through high-tech medicine. This makes him one of the few pre-war characters who can be spoken with at length.
He’s a vain, arrogant, controlling man, and his goals are all for the sake of his own pride, even ifthe Mojave Wastelandersdo benefit from them. Like most of the New Vegas inhabitants, he’s morally gray. He also offers some humor to the story and is an excellent addition to the series.

8Veronica Santangelo
Veronica is a companion inFallout: New Vegas, and is known for her powerful right hook. When you meet her, she’s a scribe for the Brotherhood of Steel. She’s responsible for finding supplies and technology for the Brotherhood.

She’s a talented machinist, but disagrees with the group’s inaction. Since she’s able to travel, she witnesses the development unfolding elsewhere while her order stagnates. It’s a story of the conflict between progress and loyalty, and through Veronica, it’s presented in a manner as heartbreaking as it is hopeful. She’s not a wholly serious character either, as her personal goals give her an endearing human side. If she had a more prominent role in the storyline, she may rank even higher.

Ulysses is a rival implemented correctly. Over the course of the Fallout: New Vegas add-ons, you find logs and witnesses to his travels, indicating he’s walked all the same roads as you. He was the courier of the legion, and presented as an equal to you.
The Lonesome Road DLC is all about bringing the protagonist and Ulysses together for a final showdown. In his dialogue, he’s vocal about his philosophies and is open to compromise and accepting different viewpoints. Despite the short time you get to actually talk face-to-face, you learn a lot about Ulysses, and you may agree or disagree with him because of what you learn.

6Nick Valentine
Nick Valentine is a companion from Fallout 4, and arguably the most interesting among them. As a second generation synth, Valentine is a mechanical android in the truest sense. His identity is imprinted from a pre-war police officer of the same name, and Valentine knows it.

Nick’s story arc revolves around his identity. He often questions who he is as a being, and if all the good he’s done is just a result of the personality he’d been given. In addition to having some of the best and deepest dialogue in the game, his clothes and demeanor make you feel like you’re a noir buddy cop duo as you travel the commonwealth.
Caesar, also known as Edward Sallow, is the founder and dictator of the Legion. As he leads the more antagonistic faction in New Vegas, you will eventually cross paths with him. The player is given the choice of either killing him or joining him. As such, he can be your antagonist or your overlord, and he plays both parts well.
He’s truly ruthless. He orders his legion to wipe out whole settlements and brutally ensure that there are no survivors. As a leader, he’s shrewd and calculated, and a rather more intriguing person than a simple one-dimensional tyrant. Very few characters can match his force of personality.
When it comes to super mutants in the fallout franchise, most players are familiar with the brutal warriors who merely shoot you on sight. These foes are so common in Fallout, in fact, that you could be forgiven for thinking they were the only kind. However, There are super mutants that can talk and reason just as well as any human.
Marcus is one such super mutant. Appearing as a companion on Fallout 2 and as an NPC in New Vegas, Marcus leads a community of peaceful super mutants far from other settlers on the Mojave. He provides a unique and intelligent viewpoint into the super mutants' frame of mind, and acts as a reasonable presence belying his size and strength.
3Courier Six
The star of New Vegas is unique among Fallout protagonists, as their character is somewhat established before the start of the game, thoughcharacter customization is still paramount: Through your own actions and by serving as a temporary NPC. You can talk to your disembodied brain, and glean a surprising amount of insight from doing so. Obsidian Entertainment gave Courier Six just enough of a history, while keeping enough gaps for you to insert your own character into.
Compared to other installments, New Vegas’ speech system offers more variation, with differences based on your stats and the Perks you choose. As a result of this, your character will truly feel like they’re yours. Beginning with the history established about Courier Six in the Lonesome Road, then augmenting it with Perks like Terrifying Presence, the result is a fearsome and highly customizable warrior.
2The Master
The Master is the original antagonist of the first Fallout, the creator of the super mutants and atrue villain of the genre. Little of his flesh remains, and he’s connected to a sophisticated computer system. His patterns of speech are unnerving, as if he is struggling to convey thoughts too terrible to express.
Over the course of the simple objective of finding a new water purifier for your vault, you are put at odds with his plan. The Master intends to create a new “species” of human by forcibly turning everyone who agrees into a super mutant, and forsaking all who don’t. He plans to start with your vault. Sinister villain he may be, but he’s an unforgettable and malevolent force in Fallout’s overarching narrative.
1Joshua Graham
Joshua Graham is an ally in New Vegas’ Honest Hearts DLC, and a former legate in Caesar’s legion. He’s one of the most multi-faceted and complex characters in the series, a very conflicted man trying to reconcile his past mistakes with his beliefs and desire for revenge.
Joshua Graham followed Caesar on the slippery slope to developing his nefarious regime. When you interact with him in Honest Hearts, he freely speaks of these elements of his past as you aid his faction against invaders. Fantastic voice acting truly brings this troubled and influential man to life.
