Pokemon Scarlet & Violet’s second paid DLC expansion, The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Part 2: The Indigo Disk, is coming very soon, set for release on December 14, and it brings with it the power to let your game-specific legendary pokemon,Koraidon or Miraidon, fly across the map.
As stated by Nintendo of America on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, “While this power is believed to be just temporarily imparted, it can apparently be made permanent once you’ve made it far enough in your adventure.” This news has been pretty exciting to a lot of Pokemon fans, offering up a new level of area accessibility and a new way to travel around the game’s world. Still, there are plenty of dissenters who are criticizing the game’s developers for their choice in adding the new game mechanic.

Based on the comment section of the post, there are a couple of different gripes and concerns that a lot of players seem to have. Firstly, there’s the argument that the two winged legendaries, who are each acquired nearly at the start of ther respective versions of the game, should have had the power of flight in the base game. Instead, the closest Scarlet and Violet had previously let you get to flying across the game’s open world wasgliding from high places, which isn’t unlocked until you’re most of the way through the games' Path of Legends storyline, and has drawn criticism for its slow movement speed. Adding to the player dismay, @BottlesTheMole stated, “Back in my day HM02 wasn’t locked behind paid DLC,” posting the comment alongside and image of the player receiving the Fly HM in Pokemon Red or Blue.

New school. New ‘mon. New you.
Also along these lines, multiple players have showed concern about how well Scarlet & Violet will be able to handle the new mechanic, as many have experienced issues with pop and lag, especially while gliding, and they’re concerned that the issue will persist when using the new mechanic.
Despite the criticism, there are a handful of other Pokemon players who seem to like the direction the new DLC is heading with its flying mounts. @Bulbaboy1992 expressed appreciation that allowing players to fly across the map wasn’t something the developers put in from the get-go, saying “Once everyone can fly across Paldea, climbing will basically be obsolete.” @AstralHelios added “For real?! I was ENTIRELY expecting it to be locked to the minigame, but thank GOD we can unlock it permanently!”
