When it comes to the world ofGame of ThronesandHouse of the Dragon, it is safe to say that there are a lot of characters to hate. With the entire franchise covered in a thick blanket of moral grayness, it is difficult to like or dislike a character. However, every now and then, a character shows up or switches their loyalties, turning into the personification of resentment and disgust for fans.

House of the Dragon

In the original series, Cersei Lannister took on this title proudly, being wretched to her very core from start to finish. However, as the franchise moves into its next (or previous) chapters, a new character seems to have taken on this disgraced role.

House of the Dragon—A Knight Grasping Hot Coal

Ser Criston Colehas never been a favorite for fans ofHouse of the Dragon. Throughout the first season, he was a complex character who was confused between his duty as a knight and his desires and feelings. While his switch from the Blacks to the Greens was somewhat frustrating, there were bigger things fans had to worry about in the first season.

However, as the series enters its second season, these feelings have drastically shifted for audiences, as episode two of the season brought his motivations and undying loyalty to a new low. In his need to serve and protect and the fact that he was unable to save Aegon’s child, he took some concerning measures to ensure the scales between the Blacks and the Greens were evened out.

So much so, that his anger and grudges towards Rhaenyra led him to Arryk Cargyll to disguise himself as his twin brother and kill the Queen. In the fallout of his scheming, Erryk killed his brother and killed himself immediately after, with Rhaenyra forced to witness it all.

A Splitting Image of Cersei Lannister

It is safe to say thatfans are not happywith Criston Cole’s character after the second episode. The events that transpired within the hour of its runtime are bound to change the trajectory of the series, and not for the best reasons.

The tensions have been building up ever since Aemond became a Kinslayer. However, the role that Cole played in everything that happened, and the fact that instead of being punished, he was promoted to the Hand of the King, have made audiences furious.

Reminiscentto Cersei Lannister and how she rarely saw the consequences of her scheming, fans are enraged byFabien Frankel’scharacter. Many pointed out how the ending of the episode infuriated them, with Alicent and Cole dancing around a world they set on fire.

Others were impressed with the strong emotions the series is sticking with their viewers, giving the writers ofHouse of the Dragona pat on the back. The ability to strike such great emotions when the season is only two episodes in is truly the mostGame of Thronesthing they could have ever done.
