D.Va has had some reworks since the release ofOverwatch 2fromOverwatch. Players might be used to playing her as she played traditionally as an off-tank, but there are a lot of different options in playing her now as she is now a primary tank since the game has switched over to the one-tank style. D.Va is still the mech-fighting hero we love, but one that needs a different understanding for more effective strategies.

This article will ensure that players can understand how D.Va plays now and will hopefully win new players and those looking to rank up out.
10Understanding The Rework
D.Va might feel similar to before, but she has a lot more survivability than she did in Overwatch. She got a mech health increase from 600 to 650. This might not seem like much but with the new tank passive that makes it so that tanks obtain 30% less knockback, it will make it so that she is in less sticky situations than she might have been in before.
Her movement speed when shooting is now 40% instead of 50%, the spread of fire is smaller with it being at 3.5 instead of 4, and the damage that she does from bumping into enemies after using her Impact Boosters ability has been upped to 25. She also has a 7-second Micro missile cooldown and 12% reduced Call Mech cost.

9The Power Of Flight
D.Va has some of the best mobility in the series and because of this, it should be taken advantage of. D.Va can use her Boosters ability so that she flies like a mad lad around the map. Players need to know how to target healers that might be out of place and easy picks for her.
The cooldown for the ability if canceled is 4 seconds and if used through its entire duration, 2 seconds. Though the cooldown is short, do not be that person that boosts into the enemy team thinking that you’ll be able to land a pick for your team. The player will die. The only time the boost should be used to dive is if the player has some sort of defensive or damage boost.

8The Art Of Self Destruct
There are many times when D.Va players will shoot their Self-Destruct and get a triple kill or team kill. This is not what happens for most inexperienced players as a lot of the time they’ll go around shooting it willy-nilly. Players need to wait for the perfect opportunity to present itself and then use it as the ability as it has a fairly long cooldown.

D.Va needs to either boost her ult into an area where she knows players will be and that is hard to run away from. Any area that players are capturing like in Busan’s main capture point works wonders. If the player is playing Extract then boost on top of the cargo and let the bomb go off to prevent a push or continue one. Do not ever use the ability on top of a cargo that is surrounded by cover as it will be easy to dodge. Also, whatever you do, don’t panic ult.
7D.Va And The Homies
D.Va has some great synergies with a lot of different heroes that she needs to learn to play with as they can create a stronger defense or attack. Here are some of the homies she can always trust to help her out:
Genji- Genji can help D.Va with damage where she fails as D.Va can do some pretty good damage, but a lot of the time quicker enemies will be able to run away effectively unless Genji comes in as the clean-up crew.

Mercy- Mercy is amazing as her damage boost can turn D.Va into a force to be reckoned with especially if she is using her Micro Missiles.
Ana- Ana is one of the best champions to have on a team for large tank damage output. If she uses her Nano Boost it will make D.Va do more damage while reducing the damage that she takes.

Mei- Mei can help D.Va in two ways by slowing or freezing enemies and allowing D.Va to stack on massive damage and creating a wall for more of a stationary area control than what D.Va can provide.
Sombra- Sombra is great for incapacitating enemies and causing D.Va to be able to fly on in and be Sombra’s secondary source of wrath.

Note: Any character that can clean up after D.Va, incapacitated enemies for her to land big damage, or boost her defensive and attack abilities works wonderfully with D.Va.
6D.Va And The Haters
Like any ultra-famous gamer, D.Va’s going to have some haters, but, unlike most haters in real life, hers are trying to kill her. Some are better at achieving that goal than others. Here are the types of heroes that will mess her up for each type of class.

DPS- D.Va will want to stay away from heroes that can deal a lot of damage to her without their shots disappearing. Heroes like Mei will melt her as she won’t have a lot of ways to defend against them. Heavy hitters like Junkrat in 1v1 situations can also absolutely destroy her if she isn’t careful in how she uses her utility.
Tanks- Stay away from tanks that can melt D.Va. There are a lot oftanks that can go inand obliterate D.Va in 1v1 situations like Winston and Zarya. Doomfist can also be a menace if they are able to outplay her in maneuverability.
Support- If a support is mobile or can get through D.Va’s shield then she may need to stay away from this support as they will absolutely end up obliterating D.Va.
When players hop onto D.Va they’ll notice that she has her human form after her Mech has been destroyed. This form plays completely different from her original form as she has a blaster that shoots in a somewhat delayed manner. Players will need to do enough damage or wait long enough to get their mech back.
The best way to play D.Va outside of her mech is by making sure that she always has cover and is never near a fight with more than one hero. She only has 150 health and, though her blaster packs a punch, she can be easily overwhelmed.
4The Matrix But Not The Movie…
The Defense Matrix is not the movie that’s been killed by redundancy, but rather the ability that allows players to defend against projectiles. Not all projectiles are created equally though as many are unblockable by the defense Matrix. Here is a list of attacks that D.Va. will not be able to block:
3Boom, Boom, Ouch
D.Va’s Micro Missiles ability it’s amazing if the player is able to track opponents with ease. There are 18 missiles that deal 125 damage together. This is enough to get an opponent pretty low. A good strategy that a player can use once they have mastered D.Va’s movement is rushing into opponents with Boosters and popping Micro Missiles. The damage from the missiles and the damage from knocking into an opponent is sure to cause a lot of pain.
On top of all of this, her Micro Missiles ability is amazing at targeting large shield abilities as there is a lot less room for error in D.Va landing all of her hits. Be careful with this ability as if the missiles detonate near D.Va they will do damage to her as well.
2The Power Of Fusion Canons
D.Va’s Fusion Canons are able to melt opponents with their damage output. Each canon fires 11 pellets per shot and each does about 0.6 - 2 damage. The damage on the guns starts to fall off from 10 to 20 meters and the bullet spread is fairly large, so players need to make sure that they are fairly close to opponents if they want to get kills.

All in all, D.Va deals a scary amount of damage to anyone that gets in her way. She can deal up to 152 damage per second making her one of the strongest tanks when she is able to get up close and personal with enemies. Players must remember that she also has a 40% movement penalty when she fires her guns.
1Picking Picks
D.Va has the ability to fly toward enemies quickly as mentioned before, but what players need to learn is when the right time to go in for a pick is and when the time is not right. Players need to verify that the pick they are trying to get is either somewhat isolated or somewhere with an easy escape.
Players should never try to go in for a pick if they are near a group of their teammates. They should also remember that the role of the tank is primarily to tank, so tanks must ensure they don’t go in at a time when their team needs defensive capabilities.
