Seven months after parent companyGameStoppulled the plug on Game Informer, the magazine has been resurrected, and it seems stronger than ever.

Game Informer Is Back And Announces Print Magazine

Gunzilla Games, the developer of Off the Grid, is the new owner of Game Informer. According to Game Informer Editor-in-ChiefTim Miller, the new owners “insisted on the idea of Game Informer remaining an independent editorial outlet.”

Miller notes that the editorial group making 100% of the decisions on what they are covering and how will is the “only path forward,” and “without any influence from them (Gunzilla” or anyone else."

Best JRPGS of 2024

When the closure of Game Informer was announced last year, GameStop abruptly yanked the website from existence. It’s back now, and the team has updated it with reviews and even theirBest Games of 2024, since they weren’t able to do that last year. MIller says that the site will have daily updates with news, reviews, previews, features, event coverage – basically what they were doing before everything got pulled by GameStop.

Not only is the website back, but Game Informer is looking to release print magazines once again! Miller shares, “Our intent is to bring back the magazine bigger and better than it was before, and add a host of membership and subscription benefits, including an expanded scope to our videos, streaming, and feature coverage, while also broadening the range of experts and partnerships we tap to bring you those perspectives.”

While we normally don’t post about other outlets, Game Informer’s revival is news worth sharing given the magazine’s place in gaming history.

Game Informer debuted in August 1991 by former games retailer FuncoLand. In 2000, Barnes & Noble acquired and merged several companies, leading to GameStop Corp’s formation. That same year, the company purchased FuncoLand and Game Informer.

If you’re not old enough to remember gaming magazines, they were once the gateway to video game news. They featured big games about to be released, had previews, tips, and a whole lot of ads. Gaming magazines might seem archaic now, but for those who remember (like I do), reading it on paper is a different feeling.
