WhenFallout 3debuted all the way back in 2008,gamers couldn’t stop praising the gameand labeled it as Bethesda’s best work ever. The title was Todd Howard and his team’s first dive into the post-apocalyptic franchise, and they completely managed to nail the gameplay.

No one can deny the fact that one of the best things inFallout 3was the Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System (V.A.T.S). With this feature, one could slow down the time and pick individual body parts to target. Sure, some might call this a gimmick, but it gave us some cinematic sequences that no other game ever provides.
V.A.T.S. is now a staple for all Bethesda games, and we’ve even seen it inFallout 4,Fallout 76, and evenStarfield. However,Bethesda hasn’t managed to recreate the magic ofFallout 3‘s cinematic V.A.T.S. in any of these games. When you take a look atFallout 4, there’s more fluidity in the V.A.TS system, and it has surely improved the flow of the game.
However, it has had an opposite reaction to the cinematic quality that we all fell in love with in the previousFalloutgame. Nowadays, it feels like V.A.T.S. sequences in Bethesda games feel less impactful and just forgettable. Let’s hope Howard and his team can learn from their own past successes and nail this fan-favorite system inFallout 5with perfection.
Fallout 5might be years away but the franchise is blooming
We already know that Bethesda will start working onFallout5 after wrapping upElder Scrolls 6. So, it’s fair to assume that the game has not a single chance of dropping before 2030. You might think that this wait is actually disappointing, but theFalloutfranchise has a lot to keep one busy right now.

That’s not all,though; reports suggestFallout Season 2has entered production, and its filming will be complete in April 2025. There might be some wait for the hit shows next season, but at least it should be out next year.
