Announcements and “World Premiere” trailers are the name of the game when it comes to watching The Game Awards 2018, as the draw of seeing gameplay for the next big game is bigger than watching the expected winners take home the prize. Last year’s reveals included From Software’s VR titleDéraciné,In the Valley of Godsby Campo Santo,Breath of the WildDLC, andBayonetta 3. I’m pretty sure you can also expect anotherDeath Strandingtrailer given Keighley and Hideo Kojima’sfriendship.

Geoff Keighleyhas been hard at work on The Game Awards 2018 for a few months now and shared some of his thoughts on producing the show on Twitter:

Giving my all to@thegameawardsthis year. We’re trying a lot of new things, but I want the show to continually evolve every year. It is such an honor to produce it for you. We’re on the brink of so much news about this year’s plans. Sitting here in our@thegameawardsoffice thinking about the big picture. If you were producing the show, what changes would you make? Where are our blind spots? Making a show like this is always about balance and compromise. Can never please everyone. But I’ll give it my all. Some people want more awards. Others want more announcements. Maybe you want us to remove a category, or to add one. We take all the feedback into consideration, but ultimately I must build the show that I think best represents gaming to the world. I think about it a lot.

Keighley recently welcomed Steven Ma, senior vice president for Tencent’s interactive entertainment division, to its advisory board earlier this week.

“I am honored to be a part of the illustrious advisory board for the Game Awards,” said Ma. “Their awards are a celebration of the gaming industry and players around the globe, and have been a key voice in both recognizing achievements and understanding future trends.”
