Ever since the announcement ofElden Ring‘s highly anticipatedShadow of ErdtreeDLC, fans have been bouncing off the walls trying to come up with theories about what will be awaiting them in the new chapter of the game.

With the DLC set to release on June 21st, the excitement continues to build as we approach the release date. Fans are already dissecting every detail of Miyazaki’s interviews and the official trailer, in search of clues about what’s to come. And according to a few fans on X, the story might not be what we think it is.
Will the Final Boss of the Elden Ring DLC be Miquella?
One particular thread on social media platform X sparked a flurry of theories when a user asked the community to chime in on whether they thought Miquella would be the final boss ofShadow of the Erdtree.

The responses to this question were quite interesting, with some seeming to agree and others confident that this would absolutely not happen.
“That is in fact Miquella”: Hidetaka Miyazaki May Have Accidentally Confirmed a Terrifying Elden Ring Theory in Shadow of the Erdtree
One user suggested that Miquella could show up in the end to cleanse the Erdtree, instead of us having to fight him.
No chance. He will be there for ending though. After we defeat the final boss. Miquella will show up to cleanse the shadow from the Erdtree thus bringing light to the shadow realm.

Another theory suggested a more benevolent role for Miquella. Likening him to a helpful NPC, they theorized he could help players by exchanging runes for power.

I think Miquella will be our Melina of the Shadow Land. He will be who we talk to to exchange our “runes” for power for the area’s exclusive power leveling.

One user felt that it was near impossible for Miquella to take on any other role other than antagonistic, considering the way the game has pinned up as a powerful demigod that can use mind control.
They keep building up the idea how terrifying and powerful Miquella is because he compels affection from those around him
Would be strange to have a demigod who can effectively mind control people and not have that pay off in a villainous way

Considering how little we know about Miquella, it’s interesting to see the spectrum of theories that have come out about his character, and how any one of these could be true. We’ll have to wait until the DLC’s release to find out for ourselves.
Miquella Might Have Intentionally Set Up Malenia to Die
One of themost compelling theoriescirculating among fans is the idea that Miquella may have intentionally orchestrated the events leading to Malenia’s demise.
According to this theory, Miquella transferred his soul into the Haligtree in an attempt to overcome his curse of eternal youth, leaving his lifeless body behind. However, when Malenia’s Scarlet Rot threatened to destroy the Haligtree, Miquella guided the player character towards Malenia, leading to her death.
Elden Ring Players are ‘Praying’ that Shadow of the Erdtree Takes One Dark Souls Mechanic for Malenia
This theory grew popular after recent teasers for theShadow of the ErdtreeDLC, which hinted at Miquella’s imminent return. Plus, with Miyazaki’s official confirmation that the DLC will heavily focus on the enigmatic character, all that’s left to do is dive into the game and see the plot unfold.
We have absolutely no clue as to what led Miquella off to the Land of the Shadow, and players are left to unlock the true nature of this character and the impact he may have on the fate of theER‘s rich and desolate world.
